clutch/trans fluid

Okay, rookie question here,
How do I check the clutch and/or trannie fluid? Every time I pull into the garage, there's one or two drips of the red fluid there.
I just want to make sure I'm not slowly dripping into a failure.
Thanks!

Hi, the clutch fluid is checked with the white plastic reservoir that is on the driver's side of your firewall in the engine compartment, the throttle linkage rod passes behind it. You can eyeball it and see the level, and level markings are on the side of the reservoir. Dark/black fluid needs changed, good/new fluid is nearly clear to honey colored. Trans fluid depends on your trans, I assume you have a Tremec (?) if so the fill plug half way up the passenger side of the trans main body (it is the square shaped plug) is where fluid is added until it just starts to seep back out, which indicates full (on a level car). If a fluid leak is the problem, you'll need to get under there, clean things all up, and then identify just where it is coming from, let us know what you find and good luck :D :D

Miles,

If the color is red, it is more than likely tranny fluid. Follow ther guidance given by Velox to determine the location.

I had a similar situation, had couple of drops of tranny (red) fluid after a drive. Mine turned out to be a leak at the electronic speedometer sending unit connection. The O ring was worn out, haven't had a drop since replacing the O ring.

Hopefully it's a simple fix for you as well.

Good luck.

!Grazie!

Thanks for the help guys!
The red drops are at the back of the Tremec trans, right at the U-joint.
Trying to make sure everything is where it should be for a flogging in Tulsa.

Hi again, that's probably the rear trans seal (for the drive shaft yoke where it enters the rear trans housing) these can leak if there is wear on the yoke, like grooving seen with high mileage. You can remove your drive shaft fairly easily from below and pull out the yoke to inspect it. Main thing is make sure your trans fluid level is not low, check the level at the side fill plug. If the yoke is good and the seal is bad you can get another from Tremec or dealers like www.standardtransmission.com, just call them they know the part number. If you find the seal bad and don't want to mess with it most any transmission shop could replace it fairly easily. Have fun in Tulsa :D :D
