Rear Diff. Removal
It looks like I need to pull the Dana rear differential (limited slip not working). I can see where the half shafts unbolt and how to get to the rear diff. mount, but I am not sure where is the best place to come apart in the front end. It looks like it can unbolt at the driveline brake but I'm not sure. If I pull the drive shaft out at the tranny it looks like I will loose the tranny fluid.
Bottom line, what's the easy way to pull it out? Thanks, Ken 2560 |
I'm not familiar with SPF's but my transmission does not loose lube when you pull the driveline if you disassemble the u-joint and leave the end in the tranny. There's a seal there. Mine's a Richmond 5spd tranny. Your experience may vary.

Look at this thread. http://clubcobra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78323 I did not remove the diff from my car but had I removed the axles it would have dropped out. Take a look/feel and find out if your car has nuts or nut plates on the front mounts. If it has nuts it will be easier in the long run to remove the trans tunnel to acess the nuts. Since you have a late car you probably have nut plates so you most likely won't work so hard getting your front mount back in.. Good luck. Sam. |
Drop the axles out, lose the driveshaft and e-brake setup. Shouldn't drain from the trans. If you don't have a jack to support it, it's definitely a two man job.
