SPF E-Brake Adjustment
Greetings Folks;
Do any of the long-time SPF owners know the procedure for adjusting the emergency brake? Mine is spanking new (SPO2627), and apparently in need of an adjustment -- it won't hold the car. I put the car up on a newly acquired KwikLift today, and it appears as if there are numerous potential adjustment points besides just mechanically shortening the actuator rod connected to the e-brake lever. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Bryon |
mine is spf 0995 and I have a 25 foot rope with a large cinder block. I just throw it out on the ground when I need to. It works better than any other spf ebrake they ever made...........just kidding, everyone has trouble with their spf ebrake. There are a number of post here on this forum that deal with this issue. I really wish you luck:)

The adjustment process is not difficult, but the article recommends that it be done in a step-wise manner, which is covered in several pages of instructions. I don't recall all the steps, but I do remember the basic adjustment involves setting the pads as close as possible to the disc and the last adjustment sets the length of the rod between the E-brake handle and the arm on the brake assembly. If you email SCOF all the info, you shouldn't have any trouble getting registered. It's free and definitely worth doing. Lowell |

I bought my SPF thru Dynamic in Ross, Ohio as I believe you also did. They gave me a terrific CD of the Superformance Mark III Installation Guide put together by Mike Evangelo at Snakebite Performance, Dynamic's sister company. It covers just about everything in good detail, with a lot of detailed pictures. I printed a copy using a high quality color laser printer and heavy paper and started what will be my shop manual. I just checked and there are 13 pages and 34 pictures covering the adjustment of the parking brake, so it is more than just tightening a single adjustment. If you did not get this CD with your SPF, give your salesman a call and ask him to send it to you. Rodger |

Probably a good idea to take it to the dealer. The technical bulletin is good, but after 6 or 7 hours adjusting (many varibles) and replacing the pads I have found the emergency brake only holds when the car is sitting level.

I adjusted my park-brake some time ago,and now whenever i drive there's a rattling noise on the left side.If i pull the handbrake up a notch or two,there's no noise.I'll have to take of the wheel sometime and start all over again.Hope to sort it out then.

Greetings Everyone;
I took Rodger's advice and asked Dynamic for a copy of the "Mark III Installation Guide" CD. The were kind enough to FedEx the thing out here, and I had the brake adjusted in only one beer (or 20 minutes), including the time it took to carefully read the instructions. It works absolutely as it should now. The CD is loaded with lots of other stuff, too. But, I'm hoping I don't have to fix anything else soon! Bryon |
