Temp sender???
Does anyone know the temp specs that the electric fans should come on and go off at. Mine comes on at 110*c, and turns off @ 105*c. Seems high to me, roughly 230*/220*f if my math memory serves me correctly. If I leave the fans switched on, stays at 85*/90*c.(about 195*f, more liveable)
Is there an adjustment on this system? Thanks. |
Change the switch in the radiator.

Fan Activation
Seems as if my fans engage at about 85 degrees.

The owners manual says 95 to 97°C is when the fans turn on. Mine turn on when the gauge "indicates" about 90 to 93°C.
Your gauge "may" be inaccurate. But the standard radiator cap is only a 7 PSI unit. The owners manual says temps above 100°C during normal driving indicates a problem ... and if it goes to 110°C, shut off the motor and allow it to cool down. Get something that will boil water in a small container, like those little electric coffee cup warmers or a hot plate. Remove the water temp bulb from the engine and put it in the hot boiling water ... your gauge should read 100°C. If you have pure water in radiator and a 7 PSI cap, the water will boil in the radiator at 112°C (233°F). I use a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and distilled water (NO tap water). I've never had a problem. I do not know if there is any adjustment in the fan trip point. |

An automatic radiator switch with a relay circuit ,with twin pullers is what I have had forever.Never a problem, runs right at 190.I may hit 200 on the hottest days in traffic.

my fans come on at 90-92 degrees C .... shortly thereafter go off as fans have done their thing - unless in slow crawling traffic .
I have a manual switch that i use in the heavy stop/go traffic . seldom has it ever reached 100 C on the hottest days and by that time the fans are on and again, shortly therafter they go off . as others have said , perhaps your gauge is not accurate - or perhaps mine either . LOL . Bill |
Thanks for the thoughts. I think I'm going back to square one and start all over. I am running a restrictor plate, not a t-stat, will switch to a 180 degree t-stat. I am only running h20, will put in a mix (50/50 anti freeze/distilled water). The car only has @ 130 miles on it, was just runninng h20 to make sure there were no leaks. May add a bottle of Wet Water. Running a 16 lb r-cap, that should be OK.
I'm still not sure how to tell if temp switch is off, or if the gauge is that far off. If it can't resolve it, I will ask Olthoff, will be down there next week to pick up another car. Sounds like I better pick-up a couple more Lucas switches to be ready:LOL: |
