Hello All,

I have been trying to figure out what Master Cylinders are needed for my setup. I am currently using 4 piston Superlite calipers from Wilwood in the front and Dynalite 4 piston for the rear. The master cylinders are Tilton.

I spoke to Tilton and they are recommending the first time 7/8 front and 1 1/8 for the rear. This did not work .... hard pedal but can not lock up brakes.


After speakiing with Wilwood they told me that Superformance is using the same setup calipers and 3/4 front and 7/8 rear.

I know the Superformance vehicles are pre-built but if you have this information or can share how your car stops this would be a big help for me.

Caliper 4 pistion Superlite piston size 1.76
Caliper Dynalite rear 1.38 piston size

I have exactly your caliper/piston set up on my Lotus Europa. I use 5/8" masters front and rear, but this is a 1500 lb. car. I can lock up all 4 wheels. Tilton tends to give way too large recommendations. Something in the 3/4-7/8" range is probably right on a Cobra.

I am now in the process to see if Tilton will exchange the master cylinders for the correct size.

I am thinking your recommendation is correct.

How does your pedal feel?

I have never driven a manual brake car before / what should I expect compared to power assist.

When my pads get glazed it is almost impossible to lock up the tires. I tried the softer pads, but they made such a mess I could not deal with them, and they locked up the tires too easily. Those pads really work best on the track. So I put the original pads back in (after sanding them to get the glaze off) Locks up no problem, with good brake balance. When they glaze again, I will just pull them, sand 'em and put them back in.

I will check the pads to see if they are glazed. Can you tell me if you are running 3/4 front & 7/8 rear for the master cylinders

My buddy and I are just using the stock master cylinders. Locks up great, but now I understand "the feel" when the pads start to glaze. When they are really glazed, I may as well throw out an Anchor! LOL

Well I have contacted Tilton and they are of no help. As this matter continues I am becoming more familar with the m/c setup. Obviously the 1 1/8 for the rear was way off. I contacted Tilton to see if they would do something for me in reagards to the useless 1 1/8 m\c and they said no.

I will have to be creative on this one I guess.

I have contacted Wilwood which is the company I should have listen to in the first place for their guidence.


By the way here are my brake pads Poly Matrix

front 15Q-6827k - 7320Q
Rear 15Q6824K - 7112q

Are they the same as yours?
