"Plug and Play" SPF Replacement Headers?
Are there any off-the-shelf headers for a 351W that are bolt on (no mods needed) replacements for my original SPF headers?
I was told by an SPF dealer that the answer is "no", and that I must purchase replacement headers only from them. Just double checking on that. Thanks |
Remember the golden rule..... "Bolt on" parts usually don't.
Doubtful there are any direct replacements considering how many cars out there run side pipes. |
Van,
What heads are on your motor? SPF has two different 351 headers now. The origional version fit great on Ford casting heads, but didnt match up well with AFR heads with big exhaust ports. SPF now has what they call 402 headers (assuming because of the Roush 402 uses the AFR heads). |
I used Brodix heads (with a raised and spread port design)when I built my engine, so using the OEM SPF headers was not an option... I built my own from scratch! ... They turned out great, but what a pain in the _____________!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Contact me off-line and I'll send you a picture of em. |
Unless you are running AFR heads, it will be virtually impossible to find an off-the-shelf option. I, like many others, run the Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads. Good heads but the exhaust ports are configured quite differently than the AFRs. If I ever have to swap motors/heads someday, I will go to the AFR not so much because they are a slightly better performing head, but because I can buy the AFR-configured header for them that match-up to the ports.
Like STCinc said above, fabbing your own might be the best solution (though not the easiest and certainly not the most economical). -Dean |
This begs the question..."Why wouldn't you trust your dealer?"

Thanks, everyone, for the information. I think I've got what I needed.
