one wire alt charge light?

OK I need a little help in wiring a one wire alt in spf 2742. I need to know which wire I hook up for the charging light. Yes, I have the complete wiring diagram and it does not say which one. I may be mistaken though, these are old eyes.:)

Sorry Ed I can not help with the wire.
However looking at that picture you sure its just the wire you need to fix%/

Looking at the pic,It looks like a little body work is in order before you need to fix the charging system.

1 wire alternator / red alternator light

If you look again on the wiring diagram you purchased from me:
I believe there is a note along-side the 1 wire alternator installation detail clearly saying that the alternator light is no longer functional with the one wire alternator optional installation.
That warning light circuit is derived from the old alternator and voltage regulator system design, both of which are no longer used with a single wire alternator setup.
This applies to all 3 versions of my Superformance wiring diagrams...
If you find a way to make it work I would appreciate you letting me know so I can update everyone’s wiring diagrams....
Anyone with a copy of my wiring diagram can always contact me directly about issues like this. A card with my email was enclosed with your wiring diagram.
I'll update the note on all 3 SPF wiring diagrams so this is clearer for everyone.

Blas, thank you. Guess I'm going to be without one. If I do find a way you will be the first person I contact. I like your wiring diagram. :)

This question comes up regularly. If you get a copy of "the 12-volt doctors handbook" from any marine store you will have a wealth of information about just about any alternator problem. Basically a charge light recieved its power from the ignition switch, and was grounded at the alternator Auxiliary diode trio. When the alternator started producing DC, it back-fed the light, which no longer had a ground side, light went out. Any alternator shop should be able to look at your model, set this feature up for you. Its something we do all the time on marine engines.

Ed - Would love to see your new car as your avatar vs. the current picture...unless it's a public service message. :JEKYLHYDE

Anyway, glad to hear that you made it through the SB100 labyrinth and that the new build is coming along. :D

Maurice,
Perhaps since you do it all the time, you could get us some additional information and perhaps a sketch of the wiring?
Thanks from everyone...

I am not a big fan of one wire alternators. One wire alternators are energized even with the ignition key turned off. This will eventually drain the battery...I would suggest you put in a battery kill switch to separate the battery from the alternator.

Tom mentions only one dis-advantage of a 1 wire. Here's a great site that explains more. Catalog

Thudmaster I changed over to a one-wire alternator as well, and as you have read here that new charging system is not functional with the old charge light circuit. I converted mine to an oil pressure warning light (comes on if the pressure ever is below 20psi when key is on) but you could use that warning light system for most anything similar - temp alarm, manual fan on, whatever. Just another idea for you, while you are fixing that avatar :3DSMILE::3DSMILE:

Oil pressure warning light here also.
