How many LS7s are out there?

Just curious...how many LS7s are out there either finished and up & running or in the build stage? Regards.....Paul |

Having a 07 Z06, I can tell you that putting this engine in a cobra wthout the associated traction control system would be like driving a loaded gun.

Thanks....I'm getting some pretty consistent feedback about the danger involved with the power of the LS7 in a Cobra, and not just from you guys on Club Cobra!.
I am planning on putting traction control in the car, but even so, the feedback I have received is making me question whether I'm doing the right thing! The dilema we Australian's have is that we are not able to install the engines you guys can in the US due to our incredibly strict emissions laws. We are essentially stuck with choosing a V8 that is sold in a current production vehicle. That leaves really only 2 choices the Ford modular quad cam 5.4 V8 or a Chev small block (LS series) V8. The allure of the 427 cubes is pretty seductive, hence my decision to go with the LS7. I'm very confident that the cheaper L76 (6 litre) or LS2 (6 litre) V8s or even the big lump of the quad cam modular V8 would be plenty powerful enough, but it's just something about having a 427 in Cobra that pushes you into the realm of considering the illogical!! I'll stew on my decision and see where I land...thanks for your comments. |

Backdraft's can be easily equip to a LS type motor. We have motor mounts and headers for these motors. I understand why you have use these type of motors and the crazy emmissions. What I hear that the engine and our sidepipes sounds fantastic. I have installed many engines in our cobra's with excess of 550 to 600hp, the traction isn't the problem, it will be the driver. LSD rears put a lot of traction on dry pavement, but watch out with the water. Bill |
I don't see the problem with the LS7's HP/TQE. I have a 427W with about 575HP at the crank and 475 RWHP, the LS7 should be about the same. No problems until I do stupid things.
I drive in the rain all of the time and performance in the wet is largely determined by tires. Yes, you can still easily overpower the tires but common sense (potentially in short supply) will get you through. Traction control is determined by the connection between your brain and your foot. This is like guns, the safety is the grey matter between your ears. Jim |
My 427 Windsor is in the same ball park(probably a little more) as what C6 Z06s are putting down to the tires. I really don't see what the big deal is about being concerned about traction. Drag radials do just fine and it's not like you're required to use full throtle. If anything I think I'd like another 100 or so wheel HP.

I'm not planning on doing any mods to the LS7...It would be a stock standard LS7 straight out of the crate. I'll be treating that right pedal with the utmost of respect! The traction control is a little insurance for me just in case! Regards.....Paul |
