license plate frame

Since a license plate frame doesnt fit between the light and trunk handle, what modifications have SPF owners made in order to allow one to fit?
Notch out the license plate and frame? Dont know how much I can cut out of the Cobra one Finishline sells.
Different type of bracket?
Can the light be moved up any?
Dont have the car yet but tried fitting the frame the other day.
Thanks

My plate and a chrome "surround" fits OK, but it was from the prior owner. I'll ask him.

I did not cut the plate but I did notch the frame. I took about one and a half inches out of it. Bolted it on and it works fine. Intresting enough I did not have to do anything to my last spf.......

I have SPF #237 and my frame also fits fine without adjustment. There must have been a subtle change made...

I might actually get a plate on mine next week, so I'll have to see how the frame fits on 2613. Any suggestions for nice allen nuts/bolts to attach the frame to the bracket?

BTW - I think I'm going to look for a thin chrome or polished frame. The Shelby frame that I bought looks like it was made from pot metal poured into a cheap mold.

Doug,

Here's a nice plate frame, but a little pricey. It comes with caps/covers for the screws. I have the black chrome version on mine. The "sleek" style doesn't cut off the letters on the bottom of your personalized plate.

#747 has a high quality, simple Plain Jane chrome plate frame that I bought from, of all places, Pep Boys. Came with the chrome caps for the fasteners and it fits nicely. Sure, it shrouds the plate light some, but no big deal. The trunk handle clears it, no problem.

I have a very thin chrome frame on the car that just outlines the license plate. I also have a billet frame that fits, but it does cut off some of the bottom of the license plate. The Shelby frame will not fit on my car. It is hanging on the wall in the garage instead.

Same thing here. You only need the top two bolts, but I recommend that you apply a couple of those heavy felt stickers (you can look in Lowes or Home Depot in the hardware section) to the back lower part of the plate, in case someone presses on it, or you slam the truck. Keeps from the plate scratching the paint.

"The Shelby frame will not fit on my car. It is hanging on the wall in the garage instead." My Shelby plate fit....go figure

Anyone know where to find the "Carol Shelby Motors" license plate frame that fits the SPF?

I noticed there are two styles of that same frame out there.
The one I have that has 4 mounting holes and does not fit on the SPF and there is the one I can't find with only 2 top mounting holes that does fit on the SPF.
Finish Line Inc. no longer carries the one with only two mounting holes.

Any suggestions???

Thanks,
Dan

I have a nice billet frame from JEGS (Billet Specialties) with Chrome Acorn cap nuts. I used a die grinder to make a "half moon" so the Trunk handle is cleared. I then polished the grinded area. Looks great.

Those frames look nice, now you need fender skirts and curb feelers.

I've got two Finish Line frames hanging in my garage. :JEKYLHYDE

The first one was damaged in shipment. I recieved a replacement, but it won't fit on my SPF. I'm going to give one of those thin stainless frames that Chuck bought a try.

wtm442 04-17-2008 08:34 PM

Cheap one from Autozone fits.

Huh? I posted the picture to respond to the original question, not for you to comment on.

An insult following a compliment doesn't make it less offensive.

I put some black gasket sealer on the back of the bottom bolts for this same reason. It works well...

Since a standard issue license plate barely fits between the plate light and trunk handle, what does the Branda frame do differently to fit?
Whats the quality of the frame from Branda? The finishline frame seems to be very good quality, very heavy frame, blue backgroud with white painted letters.
My next question is, why doesnt Finishline carry the frame that fits then?
Kress motorspots carries the 2 mounting hole frame.
Does anyone know if this frame fits an SPF?
