I know this is an old thread but I wanted to make a "reasonable" list of items that are practical to carry that may be of use. Many of the posts had a number of good ideas and I thought I would attempt to make a personal list and makeup a kit for myself. I already have a lot of these items but some listed on this thread were good to add in my opinion. I tried to list them in the order of importance, if someone differs or has other ideas, chime in! A number of posts mentioned AAA tow service. I checked my specialty car insurance and it is included on mine and states it as flat bed tow service.

1. Cell Phone
2. First Aid kit (With box of second skin for burns)
3. AAA tow service telephone number. (if not included on insurance)
4. Map or GPS so you can give directions to tow service
5. Fix a Flat (2) cans. (Big tires!)
6. Small 12v air compressor
7. Tire plug kit
8. Small self contained tool kit with sockets/wrenches
Needs pliers, screwdriver with multiple bits.
9. (2) Adjustable end wrenches
10. Small LED flashlight (Batteries last longer and holds up to vibration etc...)
11. Pocket knife
12. Fuses (Ones needed to make the car run)
13. Tape (Duct tape and or electrical)
14. Cheap plastic drop cloth (Used for emergency waterproofing or laying on)
15. Volt meter / tester
16. Rags
17. Gloves
18. Small roll of bailing wire
19. Plastic Tie Wraps

I'm going to try to put this together and see if it fits in my trunk and leaves room for anything else. I'll try to post a picture like some before have done. It also might me useful to mark the things packed that you have used in the past!

Leatherman Wave will do just about anything you will WANT to do along side the road, as far as repairs go. If that, Gorilla tape and fix a flat wont work, collapsable chair-beer combination and wait for AAA.

......but additionally I carry a few heavy duty ty-raps, the 20 inchers with the metal tooth. Good for a lot of stuff.

A small toolkit
fix a flat
and a distributor wrench for when my Drag Racing buddies give me some 116:D

Sears socket and wrench set.

Spare fan belt.

Lead mallet, safety wire and pliers.

Single use rain poncho (like you get a Walgreens for $2.50). They never re-pack as small as they came out

Has anybody actually used Fix a Flat on one of these cars?

I added a few additional items to my two small gym bags after reading this thread. Great Info guys. That's why I visit this site everyday.

I have sewn in heavy duty velcro strips to the bottom of the gym bags. It helped to prevent the bags of stuff from moving around in the trunk. If the carpet in the trunk is secured to the bottom then this works well. The emegency stuff is packed into small plastic containers and then zipped up inside the gym bags.

Just thought of another item. How about that tape that sticks to it self. Dont know what they call it.

Not sure what tape your speaking of. First thought was double sticky tape, but I'm not sure what that would be used for?

I highly recommend this one. It aired up one of my tires on my Cougar from dead flat in about 2 minutes! Has it's own bag and fit's nicely in the cobra trunk and all for 25 bucks!

They all pack up nice and neat and give me room for that overnight bag if needed!

For years riding motorcycles carried a tool bag,funny thing is never needed it,always thought no matter how tools you carry you would never have the tool you need at the time.Now carry nothing but cell phone.Good Luck

Sorry to bump a super old thread but I need some help putting together a very minimalistic tool kit for my father's 2004 SPF (Christmas present). I have a pretty good idea of what I want to include but wasn't sure if the fasteners (allen and hex) are standard or metric on these cars. Also what size range for the allens and what sizes are most used for hex? I want this to be a very small roll-up type kit so I was thinking just a handful of open end wrenches in the most common sizes in addition to an adjustable. It has a windsor based Dart 427 with a MMR PT900 trans if it matters. I would likely know this off the top of my head if he would let me wrench on it, lol.

Thanks for any help with this, he is getting harder and harder to buy gifts for and I think this could be a really good one given I stock it with the right stuff.
