Clanking noise on rough paved roads ?

Not a rubbing...not a squeaking.....not something dry that is moving..not something catching ...not a bind....annoying metal hitting metal sound when under twisting of car on uneven roads ...can't find it as yet...comming from (I think) the left front ??? Could be baffles in the sidepipes ? The sidepipes ? Anyone had or found this ?

brettco 06-16-2008 08:37 PM

I would be more worried if your cobra didn't have loud sounds you couldn't find! Sorry I can't be of more help.Haha

PANAVIA 06-17-2008 01:45 AM

Are your motor mounts stock rubber>?

if so you could be rattling the sidepipes a bit, it is possible.

my other suspect would be the oil cooler lines or a loose brake caliper.

chassis 2811 is a new car - what does your dealer or installer suggest ? Bill

greg schroeder 06-17-2008 10:26 AM

sounds like a motor mount that may be loose.

Check your antisway bar rubbers.

I had this problem

I had a clanking sound coming from the driver's side rear on minor bumps too. I took the car to my tech. He tightened every bolt on the front and rear suspension. There were no bolts that were really all that lose - but all could use a little extra tightening. He explained that even though the bolt is tight when the car is on a lift - when you put the weight of the chassis on those connections, some movement may occur - so he really put some muscle on those bolts. All is fine now - no more noise.

I had a bolt back all the way out of the diff mount (up between the ebrake and the back of the diff.) Sometimes one of my front springs does not go back on the seat correctly . Take a peek at that?

They arn't much help..

I am sorry to say that I have been lost between the old Dynamic owners and the new one's...and neither has any interest in my car or my problems so my best bet for help seems to be the other owners and their experience...

Have you tried to talk to Barry Bloch or Lance Stander at their Calif SPF HQ .....? for perhaps some divine intervention. Could your problem be something your installer should be looking into as it may not perhaps be a SPF problem vs an installer issue ? If your installer is a long way away then that is of course a problem - something for all to consider when getting a car - if ya get close by/ local installers it is easier to have them check out your problems . My guess ( hopefully) is it turns out to be a minor issue making lots of noise - ie, an easy fix . Good luck - once it is debugged you will love it . Good luck and many smiles to your miles . Bill

I'm pretty much done talking to SP...

The installer is in Reno, about 900 miles. The car is a joy and I intend to fine local solutions, it just isn't worth the delay....I'm old, I want to play !!

Where are you located ???? I know some of the best SPF
guys around and perhaps you are near one. On the other hand these cars are not modern iron and just by design
stuff rattles and falls off all the time. In the 60's the kid across the street had an original and I was always picking up stuff in the street that fell off.

Check to make sure your emergency brake cable is not passing through your rear coil over spring. Check the driver side first. If you find it, tie wrap it out of the way.

Funny thing is the first cobra and SPF I ever rode/drove in was back in 2001 outside New Orleans. There used to be a SPF dealer there. The guy takes me for a ride and had a noise that you describe, his solution was to beat the living sheet out of the car, the noise was still there we did not seam to care, I was scared sheetless and he was having a blast. When we got back to the SPF shop he put it up on the rack and that is what was found.

JCoop 06-17-2008 08:45 PM

My SPF developed some rattles when hitting bumps. I tightened everything under there and they still persisted. Eventually, I found out they were the shock bushing inserts. They are the kind that has a rubber bushing at the eyes and a metal insert where the mounting bolt goes through. The rubber has elongated and so I needed to change the insert rubber. I'm gonna wait 'til the end of the season.
You'll have to take the shock off to see this.

Can you provide more information as to the conditions when this happens.

Speeds, turning, braking, feel it in the steering wheel, etc..

The more information you can provide, the better the odds that someone here will be able to help you identify it.

And just a quick note. The response you have received from the new/old owners of Dynamic does not say much for their customer service.

Honda Civic stuck in your under carriage??:confused::D

Seriously, I had a clanking under my CR when I got it and found 2 of the 4 bolts holding the rear anti-sway had snapped!! Replaced them with grade 8 stuff and noise was gone AND 8 years later they are still tight!!:3DSMILE:

Good Luck!!

Coosawjack:cool: (8 Years Later??? Time flies!!!)

I think I have the same noise, sf02807. I had to raise the height of the front to get rid of the noise. The front springs were not sitting in the perches just right. When you jack up the front end, the front springs will be lose. Raise the bottom lock nut and washer up, when you lower the car make sure the springs are sitting in the bottom and top perches correctly. It helped with mine.

Bartruff1 06-18-2008 08:15 PM

May have found it...or them

Super mech here in Wenatchee .....left front brake caliper about to fall off... binding/clicking in lower left front ball joint...needs to be replaced ...to his credit Lance made a very prompt reply and the parts are on the way we will continue to check the other things you have all mentioned ...springs...ebrake.....etc...
