License Plate Bracket

Just finished my SPF build and plan on getting it titled this week. I was wondering what you guys use for your license plate brackets, not sure what would be "typical"?

Thanks for any info.

If you mean bracket, you can buy one here:

But, I'm guessing you mean frame. Here's a thread with some good information. It seems the distance between the bracket and the trunk latch on SPFs is not consistent.

Good luck with your new car!

Richie18,

Congratulations on completing your build. Like Chuck said, the clearance between the bottom of the plate and trunk latch seems to vary. My car is 2613 and I've tried a couple of frames but nothing fits. Somebody mentioned that Autozone had a very small frame that might work, but the Autozone near me didn't have it. Others have taken a dremel tool and ground the frame to contour to the latch.

Yep... my bracket clears by microns! I have some foam tape as backing to keep it from rubbing on the latch base.

Wow, that's snug but at least you didn't have to grind.

Mine fits relative to the latch with room to spare. However, I twisted my bracket a teeny bit to increase the clearance between the plate and my paint. I have to pull the plate away from the trunk lid a little to twist the latch, but I don't open my trunk very often.

Didn't think of using foam, but will add a little as an extra measure - thanks for the tip.

I think those guys at Superformance need to measure the standard license plate size again. I tried the Shelby motors frame and I would have had to cut an inch off the bottom of the frame for it to fit. The one that Chuck (vanoochka) has came close, but would still require a bit of grinding to fit. I went to another Autozone today and they had an ultra thin chrome frame that might work (half as thin as Chuck's), but it had 4 holes and I only want two. Still searching....

Doug,

Is the issue the height or depth of the frame? If it's height, do you have some room between the top of the frame and the bracket/light assembly? If so, could you grind out the top of the screw holes a little bit to move the frame/plate up and clear?

Just a thought.

Chuck

I made one out of stainless and mounted a Finish Line "Shelby" bracket to it.

the pictures are of the same Cobra taken the same day. Different yellow? No, same. It's a digital camera thing.

Wow, Chuck. That black frame really looks good against your black stripes. VERY clean looking.

Thank you very much!

Why use a frame ???

I just put the plate on the back....and put the front plate (wa.) in the trunk. Haven't been stopped yet...

but it had 4 holes and I only want two.

Just put two dummy screws and nuts in the bottom holes that match the top screws. It will look perfect. They are metric and get stainless steel

Based on a recommendation in a previous thread, I decided to give the Billet Specialties License Plate frame from JEGS a try.

The frame is thin and just clears the handle on 2613. If you wanted a little more clearance you could grind it to contour to the handle.

Richie,
I have Superformance 2259 and the plate bracket from Finishline did NOT fit. I ended up going to Tony Branda (cobranda.com) and getting one that fits like Powershifts. The price was only about $5-6 also. I agree that Superformace should increase the distance between the plate light and trunk handle.
