One headlight not working?
Hello,
Recently I sold my Superformance to my Brother in-law. He's having a headlight issue. Here are the conditions. Low beam does not work on one side. High beam works on both sides. The not working light has been replaced with new and still no low beam on that side. If anyone has experienced this any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Stupid question, Is the plug connection clean? Rust? Simple but can be missed. Maybe a little electrical lubricant. Sometimes it could be a bad ground somewhere too. |

The low beams and high beams each have their own circuit but have a common ground. That being said if the hi works but the low does not then the ground is good. You need to check for either a bad connector at the bulb or a broken wire or a bad splice. One wire goes forward and is spliced from one side to the other. That splice is in question or the wire itself has been damaged. Check for voltage at the headlight and follow wire back until you find the problem. I say this because you already replaced the bulb and am sure you used a good replacement bulb. |
I had a similar problem on SPF1410. After checking the bulbs, etc., I replaced the relay and all was good.

ON 2734 the headlight relay (highbeam) is a metal tin can audi /VW unit. it is a metal can and on its side, it is possible that this relay is wet >?

The power for the low beam headlights is routed thru the headlight switch.
The first click on the headlight switch is the running lights and the second being the low beams. You power-up both headlights via the headlight relay. (one wire from the switch powers both L & R) Each headlight (R & L) has its own fuse (but as stated earlier; a common power source from the relay that splits) so if one low beam works you need to check power at the individual fuses (left and right – low beams fuses) Check both the “power in” side of the fuses and then the “power out” sides of the fuses. If you have power thru both the fuses then your problem is down-wire from the fuses. Did you check for power at the headlight socket? I would bet that the problem is a bad ground at the headlight socket. |
Put the working low-beam lamp in the other socket, and vice-versa. Just a simple tip to help narrow down the problem.
