How about a little context? The car could have built with any combination of motor, trans, and options.

maxum_101 09-15-2008 09:55 PM

car now has roush 402r engine and tremec tranny, just wondering if anyone knows what tranny was used? tko 500 or was it a tko 600

CSI Superformance or 20 questions.

maxum_101 - The car probably has a TKO 600. Why don't you ask the owner or post the link?

maxum_101 09-17-2008 07:49 AM

well i guess the post turns into comedy hour.. people must have too much time on their hands or are just trying to boost their posting numbers

anyhow you do know sometimes people buy the cars from someone else and make changes from what the car had originally, that people is why i ask, he is the second owner and does not know what the tranny is all he knows is its a tremec. as for motor its a roush 402r BUT he says he has 2 roush plates with 1 saying roush 427 and the other saying 402, now im just wondering if the car originally had the 427 and then it was taken out and a 402 put in.

isnt there a spf registry that shows all spf cobras and what was was put into them at time of sale?

i hope this clears the air for some of you and now maybe i can get some posts that can help in this issue.

thanks again

Have him look at the identifying tag on the transmission and it will show what it is.

Sounds weird to me. The person who is selling the car doesn't know whether it's a 402 or a 427? Where is the car? Who is selling it? You've got to admit, that based on the info provided it would be pretty tough for people to help you.

There's really no way to know how the car came from the factory. There aren't that many options, so it's not like buying a production vehicle. BTW - The factory info would have no details regarding the engine and trans, since they would have been installed after delivery.

Owner(s) did not register the car in the SPF registry....

Well at least Blas answered the other question (dang it, forgot the password or I'd have helped ya!).

If the second owner spent around $50K for that car and doesn't have clarity on what he bought, I'd be concerned a little. The replica industry, like most industries, has its share of unscrupulous parties and it wouldn't take more than a set of valve covers and some engine trim pieces to disguise one motor for a Roush. I'd insist on original documentation when buying a pre-owned car.

Jim also gave good advice...crawl under the thing (lift or jack assisted, of course!) with a flashlight and get the Tremec tag ID. You would be doing this anyway when buying any Cobra replica, right?

Good luck with your search!

thanks Blas i know you are a genius at that kind of stuff , thanks for looking into it for me. and to all others.. thanks for taking the time for posting.

No problem...sorry I only have VERY limited information to help on car ownership...
I do electrical and other such info usually...
Posting here on CC's Superformance area is probably the best way to get info like that...
Maxum 101 - do you currently ownd a car or are you shopping...I know of a few cars available locally...
What are you looking for?

On the Roush Engines check where the back of the engine and bellhousingbolt togather there is a number stamped into the cast iron. Should be R XXX then you can call Roush and they can tell you what it was sold as.

Call Jimi at Standard Transmission at 800-783-8726 or email him at jimig@standardtransmission.com He can tell you identifiers on TKO500 vs 600.
I know one way - unscrew the shifter boot hold down ring (the chrome ring that holds down the rubber fitting at the base of the shifter) and look down onto the top of the tranny. 600's have a RED anodized plate where the shifter enters the housing, 500's are mill finish.
Jimi probably knows an easier way.
