Windshield Wiper ELIMINATION options...
Posting this in Superformance section but could be applicable to other models.
Does anyone make a machined cap that would snugly fit over the protruding studs (after you remove the wipers)? My car never sees water, and even on the rare dewey mornings that I do get some moisture, the Rain-X on the glass sheets it off. I'd just as well remove the wipers all together, as they flop around at speed. I checked Finishline. Any other sources other than custom one-offs? Street rod supply houses? Thanks, -Dean #747 P.S. FYI, no annual vehicle inspections in CA. :) |

Any of the local hot-rod shops should have them.

Dean, I just went to Home Depot and purchased black rubber caps for my car. the rubber/plastic caps are the ones you use for steel table legs. I think they were 1/2"

Just curious: Aren't you required by law to have operational wipers on your car?
|
Blas, I carry mine in the trunk, I guess if I need them I can pop them back on. they fit so loose that I leave them off. they also don't have that much pressure on the blade. rain-x works for me

Hopefully he or she will be a fellow gearhead. |
When I registered my car I went to the CHP and the BAR with only the wheelbox studs poking through the cowl like Dean's talking about. No comments and no problem. I'm not sure if that means they're not required or they looked and decided close enough for government work.
Dean, that's funny. I just put my wipers on because I got tired of looking at those naked posts. Mine seem to stay put real well but I'll probably take them off for Willow. Frank |
RainX works pretty good, but I've found that driving in the SF Bay Area and around the Monterey Bay, you need good WW blades.

Good question Dean,
I took my blades off when I went to Hallett in March and they haven't been on since. I was just noticing those naked ribbed nubs look kinda cruddy. On my current budget, and with a black car, the Home Depot idea sounds like the ticket! |
The gentleman who will be doing my paint job told me that on a few high end hot rods that he has done, that they have put "clip on", hand operated (non motorized) windshield wipers just so the car could make it thru inspection. And after inspection they took the wipers off. According to this person, in Texas the regulations just state that the auto needs wipers and it doesn't mention that they have to be motor driven. Has anyone ever heard of this?
