Little red light

I own one of the older cars #1325. Over the ingition switch is a little red light that has a mind of it's own. Sometimes it is on, some times it is off. It would always come on when the car was first started then go off after a few minutes. The car runs great with the light on and off. Should I be concerned?

Be concerned...kinda...
That is the alternator light...off if all is well...on if the is an issue...I assume you running the standard alternator arrangement...not a 1 wire (red light is inoperatable with a one wire) IF you running under pulleys, it could be that the rpm is too low when car is cold and the rpm goes up when it warms up...
PM me and I'll give you my phone number....

HEY that's not an old SPF, that's a barely MATURE SPF IMHO :3DSMILE::3DSMILE:

And as blas pointed out, if your wiring and light remain as original, that is the alternator light, on when not charging, off when charging. If it is remaining on when the engine is running especially above idle then your electrical system has a problem - alternator, voltage regulator, light circuit, etc - needs checked out!

Probably the alternator, just take it off and have it tested at a auto parts store on the mainland....if it checks out ok, it's the voltage regulator...I have a few new regulators laying around, I'll send you one...installing it is real simple. Good time to change your fan belt too...with that "OLD" car...hehehehe (I have #760)

You guys don't really want to start "my car's older than yours" do you? :p

Speaking of fan belts, I replaced mine a few weeks ago. Sometimes it squeals when I start the car, then stops when it warms up a bit. It doesn't do it most of the time, just now and then. I've checked tension and it seems OK. The voltmeter shows the alternator to be charging nicely. Any thoughts?

Hands down you are the winner Bill....at least in the US of A.....
Did you send me a photo of the taillight ring you needed?
I have two laying around, but I think they are a newer style...
Is the squeak a metalic sounding one?
Next time it squeaks, get a little belt dressing spray and carefuly give it a little shot while the car is running...if it stops, it's the belt if not maybe an alternator bearing...you said you just changed the belt...did you replace it with the correct profile belt? Was it a notched belt or a solid belt?
