coil location

hi all just wondering whats the most common place to mount the coil pack on the spf cars? i see most with no coil mounted to the front of the engine, so where are they mounted? any one have pics of where their coil is mounted and how its mounted? you know they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Hopefully you know this, but I'll mention it just in case.... If you mount your regular MSD Blaster coil, or other typical coil, sideways (like I have mine below) you must have a "high vibration" or other coil that is specifically built to be mounted that way. Otherwise, you risk having an air bubble getting trapped over a winding which causes an intermittent short, which can be a real bear to diagnose as the problem "comes and goes." Here's a shot of my MSD Hi-Vibration Coil mounted on my FE.

I do not wish to upstage the initiator of this post, just a heads up. If the coil is an oil filled canister type (which many are) mounting them as above (on their side) exposes part of the core windings within the can (uncovered and above the oil level) and thay will run hot and eventually fail prematurely. MSD makes one particular type (which this appears to be) "Can shaped" epoxy coated , & filled coil that can be mounted as above without any compromises, they call it their "HVC" coil.
This is an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MSD-8...spagenameZWDVW

Rick, obviously you are only looking at pictures and no longer reading the posts.

On the front of the engine drivers side head, there is space. this is a common area for cars without power steering.

Mount it with the tower facing up and as far away from heat as possible. Mine is mounted on the side panel, right next to the windshield washer fluid bottle.

On the Front of the engine..

Is where I mounted my vibration proof MSD Coil.

I had a problem with the coil wire pulling out of the coil when it was mounted on the side wall of the engine compartment. I went to poly engine mounts and the coil bolted to the engine. End of story and end of problems.

I put my Mallory coil pack for my EFI installation over on the side where the plastic washer bottle was, and moved the bottle back a bit :3DSMILE:
