Emergency Brake busted

I was backing out the car while hand brake level on pulled position, now my E brake does not hold (stop) the car any more

Could be the broken rod or bush?

Do I have to remove the wheel to access the E-brake?

Car is 2003 SPF S/N 1751

Thanks
Tan

Tan,
You have the driveshaft e-brake. You need to put the car up in the air and take a look. there are two pads that clamp down on a disk. No cable but a rod moves a bracket and engages the pads. There is an adjustment bolt on the side of the bracket. hope this helps.

Greg

Thanks for the info, I downloaded the TSB from SPF, and car s/n 1600 and up has the driveshaft e-brake as you mentioned

hope that it's only need to be adjusted and not broken rod since I backed out with leveler pulled on

Tan,
That buliten is great. there are actually 4 things to adjust to allign the pads correctly. Since yours was working hopefully its just a rod adjustment.

E brake

Since you just backed out, that's probably the rod, but go ahead and do the procedures that add a washer and you'll get good "mileage" out of the E brake pads. If you'd driven any length of distance, you'd have fried the pads, a big week link. We used to go ahead and do this procedure prepping new cars to assist the owner in avoiding this issue.

I was able to adjust the screws and now the E break is operational normal

Commissioner, what do you mean by adding a washer?

Thanks
