Trunk Latch
Every SPF owner I know seems to have the same problem. When the trunk is opened and raised, it often doesn't "catch" and hold the trunk open until its repeated a second, third, fourth or more times. Conversely, it seems like it takes forever to "uncatch" when lowering the trunk. WD40 doesn't seem to help. Does anyone have a simple solution or is this just on of the things we put up with?

I had the same problem until I took a pair of pliers and bend the little catch that sticks up on the upper side of the arm. If you watch close when moving the lid, you can see
which way to bend the catch. It's a loose fit so watch and play with the adjustment. Chet |
I usually just lift up the trunk (gently) while pushing on the little tab on the arm, then lower the trunk down. Every once in a while, I'll get lucky and lift the trunk up the arm retracts by itself.

The locking mechanism reeks of British design. I have had luck rolling the star wheel with my thumb as I gently raise and lower the boot, all the while testing for it to "LOCK". We have all had this issue, it is not unique to SPF. I'm not sure that a prop rod wouldn't be a better solution.

Also the trunk support rattles when the trunk is closed. My winter project is to replace the trunk support with a gas shock.

I had the same problem with my SPF (confirmed by the first owner). Very aggravating. About 3 months after getting the Cobra, I used some bicycle chain lube on the mechanism. Ever since, it works great. Always catches on the first lift and releases on the first pull. The stuff works great. I use it on all places that need a little lube. I also use it on the drawer glide mechanisms on all my toolboxes. Fantastic. I agree, post how your gas shock goes. It is the only rattle the car has ever had. |

If you can hear the trunk support rattling, your pipes aren't LOUD enough:D. Although others have done it; I would be concerned about the constant stress on the mounting points created by the gas shock when it is closed (?). |

I know what you mean about stress on mounting points, but I am more concerned about the whole trunk being distorted by the constant pressure? Chet |
