New style Instrument gauge dimmer
OK… A new style instrument gauge dimmer was introduced at some point on the MKIII's standard build. This new style dimmer requires a totally different wiring for the gauge lighting dimmer circuit. The new style dimmer is easily recognized by its knob on the dashboard. It's a small black knob with white letters that say “PANEL LAMPS” on its raised surface. I need to know the car number of those who have this type installed on their cars. A photo of the knob is in my Club Cobra Gallery. Here is a link: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/s...=62029&cat=500
Please contact me or post here if you have this new style gauge dimmer on your MKIII….Please include your car number in the email to me. Thanks as usual for your help... |

Mine is 1751 and does have dim switch (off-dim panel) Tan http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...medium/003.gif |
I have been looking for one of these Off - Dim Panel light switches everywhere and can't find one. Does anyone know who sells them or if anyone has one for sale. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Tan,
But that is the older style knob, therefor the older style dimmer. These would be in cars after #2000 I would guess. You can see the knob photo in my gallery... So far - Looks like it started in cars AFTER #2743 somewhere....so that leaves about a 257 car spread....more as info come in... |
Blas,
I have the old style on 2613. Is it possible that a one of the SPF dealers might have the details regarding the exact chassis number that they started installing the new dimmer switch on? Hopefully they did a straight cut-over an didn't build a series of cars with the old and the new dimmer switch. IMO the old style switch looks better and matches the other knobs. |
I'm just updating the wiring diagrams. This is the 3rd or 4th change I believe in the dimmer used on the MKIII's. It changes the wiring to the gauges. Canvassing the owners it how I figure out where the change was started...I like to keep the wiring diagrams up to date. And since there are 3 versions, it's usually only the latest that needs attention.

I have car #2708 with the old dimmer switch but I notice mine has a 3-speed heater fan switch that I haven't seen referenced before - but maybe a lot of cars have that and I missed it.

If you can't find the switch, you might want to contact a Superformance dealer. I found the PNs for the old style switch and knob on Superformance's website.
