cig lighter plug doo hickey
bought me a portable tire pump pluged it in to that aux plug under the dash and nothing, is there a fuse for this somewhere for me to check, or something else for me to look for to get it working

I've never checked, but I'm sure there is a fuse under the dash. I don't think I would use one of those pumps. They draw a lot of amps. I burned two of those pumps up using them on my pickup.

the pump is for emergency purposes only, i bought a can of tire inflater in case of a nail hole or something and the pump for a slow leak if im out in the country back roads so i went to plug it in the cobra to make sure it works and nada...lol lucky i checked it first

Flat Fix in a can. Some brands are rough on the rims. Tires shops hate the stuff but when your on the side of the road and in a hurry, they're great. When you get home you can remove the tire and take it to a tire store to have the goop washed out before they repair the tire. :)

Just checking, but did you turn the key on?

Did you have the ignition switch on? If not no juice. I plug my gps into it, works fine until you turn the switch off.

The cigar lighter fuse is in the #5 fuse box. The first position is a diode for box #5. The next to last position is a 10 amp fuse with red wires. This is for the cigar lighter (excuse me - 12V accessory port). I plug my GPS into it all the time and recharge my cell phone when needed.

You got my wiring diagram? It's all on there... Email me if your having problems following it... The small compressor would work better in an emergency if you used the larger clips connected right to the battery. That's a lot of juice being pulled thru the accessory plug circuit. Remember to have the car running too, or you'll have a dead battery and a flat tire... Also, newer cars have a accessory plug that is always "LIVE" Pre #1040 cars had an accessory plug powered thru ignition switch. It's easy to change either way.... |

Yup the cig lighter is ign-on only, that is the lead I am using to power my sexy autometer cobra volt gauge.

I generally carry electric pump on long trips to just in case. I have never tried it. I also carry a can of fix-a-flat and tire plugs!! scott |

Suggest you try the pump on a tire that is almost flat. I got a pump as a present and it would increase the tire pressure by about 1 psi per hour! Many of those small pumps are worthless. **) **)

Many of the "road side assistance" devices draw more than 10 Amps.
If you can, you may want to see about bumping the current rating of your APO ( Auxillary Power Outlet ) to 20 Amps if you can. Another option ( easier to do on some cars ) is to install an APO in the trunk on a 90 degree bracket. Makes working on the car by the side of the road a lot nicer and the APO in the trunk allows for lights to be used in the trunk without 20 feet of wire. Just my $0.02 worth. :D :D |
