Glovebox locking mechanism
Hi all,
I was wondering if there was a common after purchase modification to the glovebox lock? The lock on my glovebox is a simple locker type lock that in effect needs the key left in it to open the glovebox - I was wondering if many SPF owners chjanged this lock to a "push button" type lock where you can open and close the glovebox as often as you like without a key in the "unlocked" position and still have the ability to lock it with a key? I was planning getting a simple push button lock from one of the dozens of 60's and 70's cars that used this type of glovebox lock as an OEM spare and try to fit it, but I thought that I'd ask you guys first?? Regards....Paul |
Paul,
I have been thinking of doing the same thing. I like the glove box lock on the continuation CSX's. I did some research and found the rotating lock they use. It almost works in the superformance glove box without any modification. "Almost" is the key word. i was going to order a new glove box door to modify it, but Superformance said they are back ordered. Here is the link to the lock used in the Shelby continuation CSX's. It is an old VW lock. https://www.bfyobsoleteparts.com/pro...9&cat=0&page=2 If you find a way to make it work please post it. Good Luck, Dan |
You might try one from an older VW. It has a pull handle.
Larry Same place that Dan found the other one: https://www.bfyobsoleteparts.com/pro...2&cat=0&page=1 |
Good evening,
A friend of mine was kind enough to attach a knob...similar to a drawer pull.......to my original key. So now I can leave the key/knob in the lock and open the glove box by just turning the knob or I can remove the key/knob and the glove box is locked. It has worked great for me. Mike |
Mister,
do you have any pictures you can post? |
Paul.
On my SPF I kept the glovebox lock as-is but added a light tension spring on the inside from the door to the wall of the glovebox. Without the spring, I found that the unlocked door would flop open on a quick startup. The spring it enough to hold the unlocked door closed but I can still lock the door when I choose and didnt have to change the lock. |
I found on my spf that when I went to change the lock to the csx model that the lock was fiberglasses in. I had to carefully remove the original lock by drilling it out. Then I had to make a new catch for the csx latch. If I had known it was going to be that difficult I would have glued a know on one of the keys like the past poster did. It sounds like the best and easiest fix.
