Have you checked the blinker fluid?

LEDs are configured to operate on the 12V system. However the load MAY not trigger a bimetalic junction to heat up enough to cause it to react ( the blink in a blinker ).

Therefore, so systems need either a resistive load added or a controller.

The blinkers work now. The copper link bar inside the stalk that makes contact with the contact bullets was missing from the original stalk. I also top off the blinker fluid.

I guess I win since I was the closest geographically to the problem, since I said it was the stalk wires and the stalk is only 3" away. LOL!!!! Excellent find. Was your auto cancel mechanism set screw installed?

I hate to ask this... BUT.... where is the turn signal mechanism located and what is the VW part # called? I would like to make the repair.

You can't make a repair before it's needed....hell man, that's not a REPAIR...that's PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE! :LOL:

Stand by...I've got the VW part number at home...the mechanism is located inside the steering colum...the lever protrudes from the mechanism.

And don't forget to burp that blinker fluid, Mister...you'll get an air bubble in there and everytime you try to use your turnsignals it'll sound like you're farting...! ;)

SPF Turn Signal part...

Bxx1....here's a link to a vendor in California who can source the turn signal switch in the steering column...

They have two part numbers on the page referenced above...both have dimmer switches in the stalk. Be careful...some of the other part numbers don't appear to have dimmer switches in the stalk. Part number C24-141-953-517-F lists for $149.95 and is an OEM part...it's shown further down the page listed ab

Then they also have a repop unit, part number VWC-141-953-517-F for $49.95. It's the first one listed on the page above.

The turn signal flasher unit is located under the dash...should be a silver metal canister about 1" in diameter, and an inch and a half long, or so. I don't remember if it's a two or three prong unit, but they're both fairly cheap and available at most any auto parts store...Autozone, Kragens, O'Reillys, CarQuest, etc. If you can pull your old one out, it's easy enough to match up in the store...really a no brainer.

FYI...if your turn signals are not blinkin', I'd suspect a bad bulb first, then the blinker itself, and lastly the switch in the column... I've also seen some corrosion in the bulb socket cause problems, as well. IMHO....

Yep...this is a no brainer...it's up under the dash, just above the steering column on the left side, if I recall correctly. It's not fixed to anything...just has the wires plugged in to it. You don't have to use a VW part, either...these are available at any auto parts store. All Chinese made, of course... :rolleyes:

Generally speaking, the flasher units don't go bad too often, but they do go bad...make no mistake. Non-working blinkers are more often caused by blown bulbs or sockets with some corrosion down in them. A little dielectric grease on the bulb contacts will usually help control the corrosion.
