looking for steering column
I am looking for a steering column for my build. The one's my car maker has sent me are just not a good quality. Who makes a good column?

What do you have in mind? The steering column is just a basic tube with a collar for the directional to fit over and I use bronze bushings inside. The shaft's I make are tubular, splined to suit, tapered collar for the wheel hub, threaded ID for steering wheel bolt.

If I sent you the shaft out of my column can you build one that is shorter? That is the problem, the shaft is to long.

Yes I can, shoot me an e-mail with a couple of pictures of it and an idea of the dimension change and we'll go from there.

IDIDIT makes a very nice chrome unit.
May I suggest you get the high beam switch in the turn signal.

I have looked at Ididit. It looks like the turn signal hub is much bigger in diameter than what an original Cobra column looks like. Is there a special one they make that I don't know about?

The column I used in my cobra was on that is found in a ford F-600 truck with turn signal and small collar. I was able to mount a mota-lida adapter and steering wheel. Had to do a little adaption for horn.

Steering Column
I used a Speedway Motors Hot Rod Column in my Pacific Roadster Cobra. I agree that the colmn in kit is not very good quaility. My bushing wore out in original column in less than 5000 miles. The speedway column uses bearing and comes with a steering whell quick disconnect. It is available in black or stainless steel. Only issue is that it does not have turn signal lever. I put a on-off-on toggle on my dash for turn signals like a lot of old sports cars or racers of the past.

There are plenty of available options depending on what finish, controls, style and length you want. They also vary greatly in quality. Flaming River and Ididit make nice stuff and Borgeson and Flaming river hardware/universals etc are really good. The ones I build are very basic like the originals to take a Beetle directional. They are powdercoated black and have bronze bushings and can be custom made to length.

As far as I know the early MGB column is perfect. The spline fits the hubs sold for the Moto Lita wheel. I used one in my 289 and I think the 427's used them also.
