Replacing Ford 9" Axles
Hey guys, I can use a little advice. Here's the short lead-up. I found out my 9" rear end housing was bowed, so I took it to a guy in Columbus, Ohio to get it straightened and rebuilt to a professional level. He got it finished, but failed to properly orientate the backing plates on the axles. I didn't notice until I hauled the thing home (3 1/2 hrs.) and then installed it into the four link.:mad: Now I am stuck with turning the backing plates to their proper positions. The problem is keeping that metal ring that goes on the outboard part of the backing plate and axle in place until I can get that "C" shaped retaining plate onto the four bolts that holds the axle in. I think it would be easier without the parking brake shoes in the way, but I'm afraid to disassemble them in case I will multiply my problems if I do. Does anyone have experience with these setups who will give me the benefit of their experience?

I think I will be doing mine next week, let you know what I find out. A buddy who is ex-racer will be guiding me through the rear end work.
