From looking at the cross sectional pictures, it appears that the ball that can shut off the flow of fuel under extreme circumstances is suspended in the open position when fuel flows at a moderate rate in from the bottom opening. If the valve is upended, the ball is moved by gravity to the closed position on the other end of the valve. If the car is upright but braking hard, gravity will not affect the ball. The only thing that can drive it to the closed position is upward slosh of fuel. My question is this. How hard do you have to slosh the fuel to move the ball from its normal suspended position to the closed position? I can imagine a situation where the fuel sloshes upwards, but not enough to close the valve. .... It's hard for me to believe that any Cobra replica can generate more than about 0.9 Gs of braking. And it seems that they have all found ways to solve the fuel slosh problem without these expensive off-road valves. |
Good points Tommy. The marketing does say "reduce fuel slosh from vent tube during hard launches/stops", so I thought I'd find out of anyone has tried them.
My current plan is to install metering vent baffles and play around with improvements to my vent crossover tube. I am not willing to do anything that requires drilling into the carb, like some of the vent whistles, since I have an original Holley 3255-1 carb. |
