No start
I have a situation where after I drive my car awhile if I shut it off then go to restart it fairly quickly, it won't turn over. It's like the battery goes dead, but then if it sits for 1-5 minutes it turns over and starts fine. Seems like the starter must be getting hot, I'm looking if anyone has had similar issues and what they did to fix it.
My Cobra is a FFR MK3 with a built 1989 5.0 and a T-5 trans. |
Is your exhaust/headers really close to the starter? You might want to try a product from this company and either wrap a portion of the header or wrap the starter somehow.

what size battery cable?
starter could be a little weak. I changed mine to a new high torque unit and never had that problem again. Dwight |
Definitely sounds like heat soak, or a failing starter solenoid.
Is your solenoid separate from the starter? Replaceable? Granted a new starter/solenoid might fix the problem, but I would try to insulate the unit first. If that doesn't work, replace it. Back in the seventies, when this happened, we would run a heavier wire from the battery to the solenoid. |
I had a similar problem even after using the DE Wrap. The final solution was ditch the stock starter and replace it with a Hi Torque low Amp version. It makes a world of difference.
Good Luck, Richard |
