Jaguar IRS
Does anybody have an old Jag manual that has information on how to rebuild the stub axles (quarter shafts that go into the carrier)? I tore one apart and I see they have shims between the tapered roller bearings. I am not sure if they run some type of preload.
I was going to buy the service manual, but if the info is not in there, that would be $100 down the drain. Hoping somebody might have one to check. Thanks! |
joy,
Haven't done this, so can't really picture the problem. Having admitted that, here are a couple of writeups that may help you: DazeCars, Mustang IRS or Independent Rear Suspension page IV On replacing output shaft oil seal - XJ6 S3 Shots in the dark... Tom |
Thanks for the reply Tom, but unfortunately, neither of thise really give a good answer. The secong one uses a crush sleeve. Mine uses a solid spacer with shims. From his description though, it sound like they need about .005" of preload.
The first article uses roller bearings. No shims needed for those. Thanks for the help! Ron |
Joyridin',
I have an article and pix of a rebuild thatmight help you. We prefer shims as apposed to the OEM crush sleeve to set up the diff. A lot more time consuming but well worth it. The folder for this is rather large with about 11 pix with the article. Will need your email address to get it 2 you with a couple sends. Jim JHE Engineering jheengineering.com |
