Sun Visor Question
I noticed on the way home tonight that one side of my driver sun visor had come loose. The sun visor has two connections to the windshield and each connection has two pieces - one that screws into the windshield frame with a tail, and the other that can rotate and connects to the sun visor itself. The side that connects to the sunvisr is "u" shaped and fits around the tail of the other piece. That is the connection I lost. I've thought about just super glueing the two pieces together. How were they originally connected? Thoughts? Thanks!

I was following the discription of your problem until you got to the part of super glueing the two pieces togther ?????
Each of my sunvisors has two hinges. Each hinge is made up of three pieces... 1) the angle bracket that mounts to the windshield frame with two screws. 2) A "U" shaped bracket that mounts to the sunvisor with two screws. 3) A mounting block that attaches to the angle bracket (1 above) with one set screw, and also to the "U" shaped bracket with one screw that also acts as the hinge joint. I can't see how you could loose one of those three pieces and super glue what's left together. I know Enzo has hardware kits to install these sunvisors. They are not cheap hovever, but maybe you can call him to see if he'll break open a kit and sell you what you need. - Jim - |

OK, call me stupid. I was looking for a real "screw" in the mounting block, while my set screw has an allen head. The allen head had loosened (by vibration?) to the point where it was about flush in its passageway, so I totally missed it. Took 2 minutes to fix, gotta love it!

Tip:
Sun visors and wind wings are particularly prone to vibrating loose. Drop of loctite on setscrew holds it in place. Replaced nuts and screws with stainless capscrews and stainless locknuts. Keeps correct tension, and doesn't vibrate lose. When I replaced windshield, the frame I was replacing had a brass strip that held the screws to the uprights. New frame had screws directly into frame with longer mounting depth. Problem is, wind wing mounting block angle changed from slightly angled, to square, and blocks no longer fit. These blocks are 1/2" x 1/2" x 3/4". Had to buy a 6' long piece of 1/2" square aluminum to make 4 ea., 3/4" long pieces. Have some extra if anybody else needs some. |
