Books on Small Block Fords...

I NEED to learn more about SB Fords before I get one...Help me start a library. I have learned a lot from you guys but it isn't enough. I have

"Ford Windsor Small-Block Performance: Parts and Modifications for High Performance Street and Racing
by Isaac Martin"

"Ford Performance
by Pat Ganahl"

on my list do I need any more?

How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines
by Tom Monroe

High Performance Ford Engine Parts Interchange (S-A Design)
by George Reid

Usually one big staple is: "How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines" by Tom Monroe

Good facts in there too, like the boss 302 came with a 2.23" valve.

That's huge.

Sorta ends at the early 80's tho. 5.0 blocks aren't covered.

Books

I have:

"Ford V8 Engines" by Tom Monroe

"How to Build Max Performance Ford V8s on a Budget" by George Reid

"High Performance Small Block Ford Engines" by Hot Rod Magazine.

So far I am not impressed with the Hot Rod one because the engines in it are not very streetable (it seems, I am still reading though). I am still reading all of them, which realy gets confusing:LOL: . I just bought them the other day, so I haven't had a chance to read very far into any of them yet.

Hope this helps,
Bran

What may also be important is what you plan on doing with this motor that you eventually build.

Street? Strip? Roadrace?

Carb? EFI?

The Tom Monroe book I mentioned earlier is a good repair and replace book. Detailed on how to teardown and rebuild an engine. It even has a chapter on how to remove an engine from a vehicle.

Gonna get a 351w built by Engine Factory...Or a 392 crate or a 396 from EF. All will be carbed and setup for street/strip.

GS;
Check out "Building Ford Short-Track Power" from Ford Racing. Also "How to Build Horsepower" Vol. I and Vol II by David Vizard. (Not Ford or small-block specific but good reading) Also "1001 High Performance Tips" by Wayne Scraba for all around good common sensical (?) pointers on building and racing. Good luck with your build.
