Rollers for a 5.4 V8

I have a 98 Ford Explorer with the 5.4 Litre engine that does just fine pulling my 20' Enclosed trailer until I hit some large hills. The damn thing slows to about 60 mph while reving to about 4000 RPM (not in overdrive). On my former engine I went to 1.7:1 Ratio Roller Rockers and gained a noticable gain in power on a 302 engine.

I know there are other mods I can make on this engine but to change out the rollers would be very quick and simple and fairly inexpensive. Any pro's or con's?

Clois, thats a big negative on the 5.4. No aftermarket rockers are available. You might try one of the powerchips for a modest gain and a decent price.

1998 explorers have 5.0 motors not 5.4 motors. Besides the 5.4 and 4.6 are overhead CAM motors and do not have pushrods and the same type rocker arms as the 5.0(302) and 5.7(351)

OOPS DID I SAY EXPLORER?

I have a 98 Expedition 5.4 litre 4X4. My daughter has an explorer, I must have had a brain fart. Any rate mine is an overhead cam engine and the answer is no I can't use 1.7 rockers.

Sorry for cluttering up the site.

If you have 5 grand or so just burning a hole in your pocket I can install a supercharger on your Expy. It will pull hills like a champ! Just cruise on out to San Francisco for the weekend, then drive home makin' boost!
