Master cylinder sizing?
I am fitting a Tilton overhung pedal assembly to my Almac Cobra, and have fitting Wilwood Billet Calipers sized 1.88/1.62 pistons, and on the back its T/Bird standard 44mm piston calipers, so I need to know what size Master cylinders to use, I realise it may be in the 7/8 - 1" area for the rear and 3/4 - 13/16" for the front???

Welcome to CC. Check out Wilwood's website: http://www.wilwood.com/ They have a tech section, and I think I remember seeing a formula to help determine m/c sizes. There are way too many variables to just take a stab at it, ie: pedal ratio, rotor diameter, caliper piston diameter, vehicle weight, tire size, etc. Good luck, |

I have mid size GM calipers on 10 1/2' front and Jag rear.I'm running two 3/4" Tilton masters w/ a adjustable balance bar between. They work fine. You know the commercial where the guy stops so fast for a rabbit that the paint slips off the front of his car ?Thats me .Clutch is a 7/8" and have no free travel or not enough release.Moving up to a 15/16" master cyl for clutch.

I don't have my notes infront of me but I think you should be going down on the clutch m/c. I'm running a Tilton hydraulic bearing and believe Tilton told me 5/8 m/c. Why don't you give them a call before you go out and buy the new cylinder. Roscoe |

I emailled the Tech officer at Wilwood and he recommended two 13/16" master cylinders to go with my setup, which to me makes good sense. What I am not sure of is the clutch master, most people run 3/4" but I guess that depends on what type of throw out bearing and pressure plate design. I will be running a single driven plate of about 10.5 - 11" probably kevlar or something that is good for the road mainly, but will handle a hammering around the circuit. Ant |
