Tri Power Question
Hi Everyone.... I have found a 62-67 Tri Power set up for my 428. It is the incline type. I'm told it was used on 390 406 427 428 engines but not early t-birds. Will it match up to Edelbrock heads and has anyone had a hood clearance issue. Thanks in advance.... Ron.

I'm guessing what you have is for a Pontiac motor, not a Ford. GM liked its' "Trip-duces" on Chevy 348 & 409's, and Pontiac 389's and 421's.
Fords used single or dual 4 barrels. Don't know of any Cobra with a 3x2 setup. Keep in mind that in the early 60's, carbs, Ford and Rochester in particular couldn't move the air these big guys needed, so they used multiple carb setups. For open the hood WOW factor, 3x2's, and 2x4's are awsome. But for performance, a properly sized single 4 barrel was, and still is, more efficient at mixing air and fuel. |
Ron, I'm guessing that it would fit...My book shows a production intake 6V intake for the 62/63 390 Special (P/N C3SZ-9424-A) and 406 (C1AE-9424-E), with port sizes 1.16" wide x 2.14" high. The intakes for the LR are shown with 1.14x2.20 ports, and 1.24x1.94 for the MR...I think the Edelbrocks are medium risers with enough meat to be ported to low risers or port matched to your intake.

Ken is correct about the 6V setup. It was offered in the solid-lifter Hipo 390 in '61 - '63. Also offered for the 406 in the same years. Seems like some port matching would be required. The EBrocks are patterned after the MR.
