pulleys bbf 429

Hi to all, question time again! just looking at putting some decent pulleys on my motor (71 429) I know I can get a set from march, but looking at all the other options, paw, summit, jc whitney, and ebay!!! there seems to be a lack of available pulley sets chrome/alum for the 429/460, hopefully someone will shoot me down in flames and list dozens of alternatives, thanks for any info. Hi Dave,

Here's yet another option.

I don't know if you can find these over there as they were a bit hard to find here new.

I've posted a couple of pictures in my gallery of the serpentine belt and pulley installation in my car (there's something harmonious about putting serpentine belts into a serpent :o ).

I used late-model pulleys as found on F250/F350 pickup trucks over here that were equipped with 460s. These stock steel pulleys should last longer than the car!

I'm very pleased with the pulleys and belts, and with the custom power steering brackets made by the builder.

Let us know where you end up,

Tom

March makes nice ones, but they are not cheap. There's a wrecking yard called "memory lane" out here in CA that specializes in musclecar era parts, they might be worth a shot. You might be able to get the alternator bracket from them as well.

Tom, mr Fixit, thanks for the info, I like the look of the 250/350 serp pulleys, I wont be needing power steering, do you have the part no's for those items so I can check availability/price? thanks again Dave Keane

Hi Dave,

Lest you believe I'm too organized :o I have some part numbers but I'm not certain that any of these are what actually ended up on the car %/ :

Crank pulley (double sheave): E7UZ6A312A

Water pump pulley (double sheave): E7TZ-8509-AC

The pulleys are for two belts which I used as shown in the pictures.

Here is another number I found in my notes that might be good for a single sheave crank pulley: 4TZCA (maybe should have E7UZ on the front of it - notes are not clear ???) although maybe this is what I used on the alternator.

Also have a cryptic note about 1-3/4", E7TZ8509AC and 2-1/8", F2TZ8509C.

Anyway, these numbers should (could?) put you in the ballpark with a reasonably cooperative Ford parts counterman.

Another "gotcha" here is that some (most?) of these pulleys are obsolete in the US, so I was lucky to find the first one still on a shelf in a small upstate New York dealership through the Ford nationwide parts computer.

I got the impression at the time that the single-sheave pulleys were easier to find.

New prices for the double-sheave pulleys were $50US to $65US each. The alternator pulley was about $16US. Single-sheave pulleys should have lower prices.

Happy hunting!

Tom

Tom, Thanks for sorting that info out for me, I'll let you know how I get on. Dave Keane
