Welding tips
 
A saw a friend do this and I thought I would share it with those of you that are acomplished or just learning TIG welding. As you know you can use the wire from a MIG (wire feed) welder while TIG welding. Take the .035 wire or similar diameter from the spool intended for MIG welder. It will come off the spool curved and may present a problem when tying to use it, depending on the spool diameter. Take the end of a 12"-15" piece of the wire in a vise and grip the other end with a pair of safety wire pliers, give it a twist and it will straighten the wire out making it much easier to handle when welding. Of coure you can buy straight rod, but if necessary this works real well.

Also while welding my headers, I took several radiator hose clamps and with a .035 thick 4" diameter abrasive disc in a hand held "grinder" I cut 3 small "windows" in the band about 1/4" wide and 3/4" long. I used these clamps to hold the tube joints together tightly, and aligned the witness lines and carefully tack welded the tubes together through the "windows". Works great as a third hand.
