Remote O/F tips?
I'm planning to go to a remote oil filter setup. Any reccomendations, or warnings?

Don't get the gasket in backwards. You'll have great oil pressure to the gauge,,,,,,,, but zero pressure to the engine.

you have a vast, very vast assortment of choices!!! Literally hundreds of possible ways to do this, or have to do this.
Tell us what you want to do, then we can offer some specifics. You can get some nice race grade stuff, race filters, but like above, be absolutely sure you plumb it correctly!!!! Again, plumb it correctly!!!! One more time, plumb it correctly!!! |
What I'm after is just your garden variety remote filter (with a temp. sensor port). It's much preferable to drilling a hole in my pan. This is strictly for a street, and very occasionally, show car. No racing for me. I've heard the Mr. Gasket type of cast sandwich plate is a time-bomb.

Bicknell racing
Bicknell racing make a c+c machined billet aluminum oil filter adapter. part#555 it utilizes -10AN "o"ring fittings. Its a very nice piece, which has a temp sensor and pressure ports. www.bicknellracingproducts.com

watch which way you plumb the adapter there is usually a check valve in the filter. If you route it backwards, you'll starve the enging for oil.Last year a mamber went through at least three engines ( high dollar stroker units) untill it occured to someone.I thought Coast high performance ate the engines.I'm in my own ordeal .I just have a small leak caused by a dinged male A&N fitting.I'm waiting for a conical seal to ensure I don't have to do this again.

Here are Bicknells pages, you will also need a block adapter such as the one at the bottom of the page. Canton also offers one too, as do others. You get what you pay for with this type of item. http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...lter.html#cast Here is Cantons Rick |
My car has the Remote Canton Removeable filter so you may inspect filter easily at change intervals. This is soooo much easier than having to CUT your spin filter apart to determine whats going on in the engine.
