MUZ,

"Cobra wheels have 3.1/2'' backspace I am told.?"

I took some measurements from the TRIGO set. I never really got used to "backspacing" or "offset":

25.4 mm = 1"

front nominal width 7.5"
total width: 214 mm
wheel mounting face towards brakes: 92 mm
center section thickness: 67 mm
take wing nut off and measure to outside: 55 mm
wheel mounting face to outside (towards fender): 122 mm

rear nominal width 9.5"
total width: 264 mm
wheel mounting face towards brakes: 92 mm
center section thickness: 67 mm
take wing nut off and measure to outside: 105 mm
wheel mounting face to outside (towards fender): 172 mm

may not be easy to understand what I mean, lacking the proper terminology, but the last values represent the space you need from hub to fender - PLUS tire shoulder!

The rims rested on the boxes they came with, when I read the values. So they are not 100% correct but 97%...

Hey Dom, nice info on the wheels. I had been told the specs but the actual numbers are different. A 3 1/2" backspace is actually 3 5/8". Critical stuff when you're building a car around it and can't afford to buy them cos you're spending the bucks on other parts. That takes us back to the rumor about them propping up four wheels with barrels and building a frame in between. Now that explains some of our funky numbers!
