Ceramic coated Headers/sidepipes

For anyone having the slip on Header/Sidepipe set up. If you are having them ceramic coated make sure that you have the sidepipe "expanded" first! Thats right I did not and they would not fit after I had them done(duh), sooooooooo I sanded, ground, etc but could only get them on part way. I took the sidepipes to our local muffler shop to have them expanded. (believe me I did not sleep real well thinking of all that could go wrong) Luckily nothing
happened.............but I would highly recommend doing it first.

Your point is well taken. I'm sure it is dependent upon the initial clearances of the fit, in my application they fit OK after coating without any tweaking, other than fighting to get each individual pipe into the collector in turn. I finally machined a spacer to mimic the thickness of the center of the collector, then inserted it into the center of the four pipes, then put a LARGE hose clamp around them and slipped the collector and sidepipe assembly onto the primary pipes.

Do they coat the inside of the pipes? Is that why they wouldn't fit?

Rick Parker 09-01-2004 10:36 PM

Yes they normally will attempt to coat them inside and out.
They shy away from attempting to do inside the mufflers however.

Gee Double, I believe it was about - +$600.00 for the coating (JET HOT) lowers temperature under the hood about 100 degrees gives 1-3% more HP..... to have them expanded after was $20.00 ( went back a second time for one side )

Sidepipes

Don't use Embee in Santa Ana CA...they coat very thin, and used C-clamps to hang onto my sidepipes...leaving nice rosettes all over them.
