trying to find answers...

I want to drop a brand new cobra into my '98 LX. I am think very seriously about using a twin turbo as opposed to a supercharger but do not know enough of the specifics as far as performance and practicality. If anyone could get with me on the thought I have for my car and can offer PROFESSIONAL tips, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Turbos are generally more exspensive, but you can get more out of them. Some people complain of the lag you get from turbo, but on the launch I like the lag so you don't fry the tires as easy. Obviously a SC bolts to your intake and a turbo to your exaust. From what I have heard and read, turbos aren't as reliable.

It really comes down to how much you are willing to spend. If you want something in the $2-3k range, go with a supercharger. Many companies make them, they are reliable, and there isn't a lot of fuss to install one anymore.

If you are serious about horsepower, you can buy a single turbo for your 5.0 liter. It will make about the same horsepower as the supercharger, if not a bit more, and will cost about $3.5k. You can go to a twin turbo set-up where the horsepower becomes whatever you feel you want to make it. Getting in the 750 hp and above is not out of the question, but you aren't going to bolt it on and go. You'll need a serious bottom end, good heads, major fuel modifications, and nobody makes a twin turbo kit where you can use the a/c, so you better plan on sweating a lot also.

The nice thing about turbos is they don't suck hp from your engine like a supercharger and you can make the car streetable while having 800 hp under the hood.
