Piston wrist pins- floating or pressed?
Just wondering your opinions on the pros and cons of floating or pressed wrist pins. The engine is a Ford 390 FE with forged pistons. The engine will be going to the machine shop soon and I would just like some input from others. Thanks, and Happy Labor Day. :D

I think full floating pins are clearly better for an engine that is torn down frequently, like a race engine. And it may be better for the do-it-yourselfer.
However, I believe most production engines today use pressed pins, and most modern production engines can go well over 100K miles without a bottom end failure. I intend to use floating pins because I can do it in my garage. JMO |

All I can say is the reason why I have a Shelby engine in my beast is that a wrist pin retainer in my original 390 FE came loose, allowing the pin to visit the block and... :eek: Anyone got a use for a slightly used 390 FE block? Rich
