For exhaust that works awesome
I sent this to Eric at Chassic Chambered exhaust. I thought this might be of interest to others as well.
Hello Eric, We put the mufflers on yesterday and Holly crap!!!, what a difference I gained a hundred 100hp & 100 Fpt easy. I used to have to use the clutch to get my tires to spin, Not no more, I just tap the gas, and the tires are a blazing even at 30 miles an hour, Just touch the gas and your going sideways. I still can't believe what it has done to my car even Gord said If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes he wouldn't believe it. Its like Nitrous. I ran them in both directions they sounded better in backwards, a nicer deeper sound, and they weren't much louder. We tested them in side the shop with a Db meter, It was a more controlled environment. Readings with stock mufflers were 98 Db @ 2000rpm 110Db @ 3000rpm 106Db @ 4000rpm With the power stix in the right way readings were 103Db @ 2000rpm 108Db @3000rpm 111 @4000rpm with them in backwards they were they were 106Db @ 2000rpm 107Db @ 3000rpm 109Db @ 4000rpm. You have to remember we were inside a shop, When we moved it outside it was a lot quieter.also my idle went up 175 rpm just from better flow. Again thank you I only wish I would have changed the mufflers before I changed my engine It mostly likely had enough power in the first motor . Thanks again, Grant Steele |
Grant,
Was this their CobraPack mufflers?? 4" outside diameter? Thanks Dave |
Grant,
Were they packed or unpacked? Brad |
Hmmm, what car, SPF ? What engine?
|
All cobrapacks are 4" OD...I would want to know length, packed/unpacked, and ID.

This should answer some questions:

I have a set of cobrapacks 20" length,4 dia body and 3" center now all i need to do is get a car to put them on. I paid $62.00 ea plus shipping to calif.the classicchambered web site has a sound bit of a 498 bb with 26 mufflers it sounds great.

I think most have the link....The question is what is it ExcessiveHP is using?
POWER STIX or COBRAPACKS and what are the dimentions. He mentioned power stix so that ends the "Cobrapack" question. thanks, curtis The 20" x 3" "Cobrapacks" packed or unpacked looks real gooood! |
Grant (the poster) ordered & installed 32" bodied Cobrapacks (not crimped Powersticks) with NO packing, & 2.5" cores. His neighbor Gord ordered the same mufflers, but with 36" bodies. They ordered 2.5" cores for a little more sound control - 3" would have been louder & they were afraid of too loud. 2.5" flowpath = HUGE improvement in flow vs. the stock mufflers. WAAAAAY more cfm through 2.5" vs. 2" or smaller. Fear not, the small louvers DO NOT hurt the flow very much, & they are necessary for better sound attenuation.
Thanks, -Eric CCEI |
Eric, Good info.....Thanks.

Okay so I am a bit new to this, how do they go into my existing side pipes? Would I have to get the re ceramic coated?
Dan |
Dan, No they don't, and yes you will. The existing muffler section would be cut off, and the new one would be welded on, then re coated. I'm curious what size the Hurricane pipes are on the inside.

Eric,
I should be able to answer the Hurricane flow path size question tomorrow. I have assumed the Cobrapack and the Powerstick are different in design internally,... is that correct? Brad |

Doesn't the "sound wave irregularities, (or tuning)" give them a unique sound, different from the Cobrapacks?

I had the GMMG chambered exhaust system on an '02 SS Camaro with long tube headers, and loved the sound. I was thinking of using the side pipe inserts, but I see now the length may be an issue.

Ordered at set of 26" 2.5" cores, packed last week. Can't wait to get them in. Going to dyno and retune the car after install, so you guys will have another data point.
Ran an 11.98 with the current setup today. Hoping the new exhaust keeps me solid in the 11's. |
