Carburetor Leaking

I smelled gas under the hood and when i checked the back of the carburetor was leaking enough to pool in the manifold. I pulled the carb, checked the rear float bowl and gasket and didn't see any obvious cracks or breaks in the gasket. I cleaned it up, put it back and it is doing the same thing. It seems like it might be leaking around the feed tube - there is the brass fitting in the carb and then the stainless connector going into it. Both are tight.

I remember in the old days (20 years ago) using teflon tape on fuel connections. Is that still appropriate? or is this likely something else. I have a feeling something else is the problem, mostly due to the quantity of fuel leaking.

Can the float bowls be replaced (in case it's a crack) or do i have to get a new carb?

Any suggestions or other things to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Check the o-rings on the float bowl bolts and the feed tube. Doesn't take much for those to go. Eliminate the obvious first.

I had a leak on the back of my Holley too. if you have a double pumper, check the diapham. mine were hard and cracked. replaced in ten minutes and hasn't leaked yet.
