Getting your oil analyzed will tell you for certain if you are loosing a cam. The other down and dirty is to measure each valves lift at the valve. If the cam is going away you will see the loss magnified by the rocker ratio of 1:7 so it shows up quickly.
Remove the V covers and bar (turn crank shaft) through the firing order while measuring each lift at the valve. Use the end of a dial caliper (the rod that extends out the end) when the caliper is opened and measure between the head surface of the spring pocket and the spring retainer. Compare all intakes lifts and all E. results to each other. If all the intakes are within say 0.010" you are good to go and same for E.side |
A buddy of mine runs a 377 stroker in a late model Mustang with a hydraulic cam,he likes to adjust his valves with a warm engine running, so he took an old valve cover and cut a slot across the top of the cover about 2/3 the width of the top from end to end.....
Install on car and you can access the rockers arms from the top and keep 99% of the oil in the motor, no mess, no smoke..... Just get an old OEM Factory metal valve cover and make your own....... David |
the 88-93 5.0L aluminum EFI valve covers are great for this as you can cut out a 1" wide stip of aluminum just over the rocker studs and adjust rockers whilst running .
with as many variables you have , i am feeling the pushrod length is off, and your push rods are too long or too short. |
