Free Play in Jaguar positrak (3.31) Diff

I have had my Jag positrak diff fully rebuilt by Jag mechanic but I'm concerned about the amount of free play. What degree of movement should I expect when rotating the rear 17 inch rim.

When you are rotating the wheel you are picking up backlash and also clearance on the diff output spline plus posi gear clearance. About 3/8" at the circumference of the tire would not be unusual.

That freeplay is also the primary reason you should never "dump the clutch". Best to let it out until you feel everything get tightened up, all that slop is taken up. Hold the clutch right on that "edge" and when the light turns green, GO! That avoids the hammer impact to the gear sets which leads to all kinds of broken stuff.

Thanks guys
From what you say the "free play" I have is probably normal

If you don't like it, I have a 3.54 Posilok differential I want to sell.
