HELP***Looking for a 5.0 mech in Ft Worth

Anyone feel like helping a fellow cobra guy out?

I am in need of some assistance. I had the car running fine before I changed the intake, I had a GT40 on there, changed it out with an EFI Spyder. Drove the car around the block and could not get it started again. I was only getting 20psi on the regulator when I checked it, so I am changing the pump this weekend. I might need some help with setting the timing and vacume lines too.

I am just ready to get this thing running and on the road. I think I am in need of some motivation!!! Anyone feel froggy?

Thanks
Jody

Well the fuel pump did not make a difference.

Keep it simple.. Fuel, Air, Fire..

She's getting air..

Have you pulled a plug to see if you're getting fire?

Was it running good before you parked it?

Check and double check your plug wires.

Timing, are you sure you're not 180 degrees out?

The EFI is pretty bullet proof and it will fire, even if the timing is off a bit.

If the car was running before you changed the intake and now it doesn't, focus on things that you touched when switching the intake.

Joe is right..........Air, Fuel, and Spark.........and the spark has to be in the right order and at the right time.

Here is a good link for timing the 5.0L EFI engines:

http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,7114.0.html

First and foremost make sure that you are getting spark. If not it could be a bad TFI module, bad ground, or other basic wiring issue. Then make sure it is not 180 degrees off (you're at TDC on the compression stroke of #1, not the exhaust), that you didn't wire up the cap wrong if you took the wires off (either wired in wrong pattern or wrong direction), and that you disconnect the spout when you are setting the base timing.

If you adjusted the timing with the spout connector INSERTED then that would do it.

Sounds like timing. --

if the injectors are sized close to proper spec for the motor - 20 PSI is low but the car will run.

Need more details -- but sounds like timing to me.

Jody, check and double check everything that you took apart for the swap.
Injector plugs, TPs connector etc. Verify that you reconnected the fuel supply and return properly, not swapped.
If you removed the dist, check your timing.
I'll bet it's something simple.
Cheers,
Richard

jodymc 11-02-2009 07:24 PM

My guess it is dist.....prob 180 out. I will pull it and check it, Thanks for the help.

Jody, What's the news. Is she running?

jodymc 11-05-2009 07:36 PM

Rich C. and a couple of his buddies are coming over this Saturday and we will bang our heads, drink some beer, and see it that works.

I will keep you posted.

Here we go..... First of all, I would like to thank Mike C and the other 2 guys that came over this past weekend.

We found the problem!!!

My wiring harness for the engine had corroded...I went to NAPA and bought a new fuse block and replaced it and .....suprise.....it fired on all cylinders.

I checked the fuses before and replaced them all, but I didn't check the fuse block.

Well Thanks again, I am pretty much a loaner if you need one.

Now it is time to get this thing on the road!!!:3DSMILE:

Jody,
On behalf of myself Rich C., Dino R. and Rodney? Your welcome. We enjoyed it.
I Know we knew enough about it to be dangerous.I learned something in the process.

I guess we were a mini T.I.T team.

Great to hear the new fuse block worked. Interesting though how that Painless 5.0 FI harness fuse block corroded like that.

We will expect it to be on the road next week.LOL
Oh goody ,another cobra to terrorize the streets of Haslet with.LOL

Rich C.
