CVAR at TWS Nov. 13-15

Hey south central Texas,

Vintage racing returns to College Station in two weeks. We have the heavy weights showing up in Group 1 big bore again. A number of BP Mustangs are signed up, including yours truly. A couple of Camero Z28's, a 72 , 64 and 63 Corvette, a Pantara, a 71 Lola T-212 and probably a couple of large bore Porsche's. Should be fun to watch, especially if we run the Australian Pursuit.

Larry will be running his Formula Ford, too.

But the big draw should be the following:

Vintage Indy cars running on the speedway oval. There will also be a couple of old racing Bugatti's. I don't remember the details, but a rarity.

Miles & John Shelton, are ya coming to pit crew for us. Miles, bring your new "squeeze", she likes fast smelly cars.............right?

jshel1 11-01-2009 12:37 PM

I was hoping to get loose for the weekend and be part of the CVAR festivities. Miles will have to pull double duty in the pits, as I am flying out to Duke that morning.

You may need to up the stipend though... the DMN piece has all scrambling to get their cars in the press:D

The Texas Highways photoshoot is attracting alot of attention, and you guys may be pulling into a pit full of crickets chirping.

Madmiles442 11-02-2009 08:21 PM

I'll ask the "squeeze," but no promises. Just back from vacation and starting a new gig, boarding the dogs seems suddenly awfully expensive...

I promise a try though.

Group 1 update:
Mustang's: 10
Corvette's: 8
Shelby's: 4
Camero's: 2
Boss 302: 1
Falcon: 1
Pantera: 1
Porsche 911S: 2
Lola T212: 2

WOW! That's 31 vintage big bore on the track, starting Saturday morning.

Group 6 update (Larry R. will be running his FF1 open wheeler):
I'm not too educated on these guys, but total of 21 cars. Some of these guys are very, very fast.

Then of coarse, the historic Indy cars will be running the super speedway oval twice a day. WHAT A TREAT!

I finally got the FF up to speed yesterday after fixing a broken shifter linkage.
Steve is running strong after a couple of suspension adjustments. The weather is great for racing and the track is fast. The Indy cars bring back fond memories of past Memorial Days. Hope you can make it.

Australian Pursuit: Give it your best shot

OK
Whats an Australian Pursuit.

You blokes (and Girls) aint gonna catch no fleetfooted Aussie in your cars. You go the wrong way around the track for a start.

Aussie Pursuit?

Get it straight Mate! We usually run our races counter clock wise, which is "backwards" to you good friends down under which might relate to the different polarity. One of us has always been a little "backwards".

The Aussie Pursuit means that the slower cars get to start up front and the faster guys (I guess that's a compliment) "The Faster Cars" i.e. Aussies have to pursue the field. It results in a great race with a demonstration of driving skills and patience which usually don't appear in the same sentence.

We invite you to run with us to see who passes who, or is it whom? :)

CVAR Results...

We enjoyed some great racing today!!! The weather was awesome, luvdablues was lightening fast and I'm going to post a You-tube of the start of his race which is truly exciting! Steve turned some very fast times and finished in a respectable position.

My Formula Ford finally is working like a good race car and I finished also in a respectable position. Look for video and pictures along with a recap of this weeks events. We wish we could share more the this type of racing with all of you. More racing tomorrow. When I return I'll post some great photos.:)

Madmiles442 11-15-2009 07:57 AM

Can't wait to see the video and pics! Thanks for the update!

Pics, Pics, Pics, Video, Video, Video........need a racin fix!

LuvDaBlues 11-16-2009 05:39 AM

I too have some nice photo's and video. I handed the video tape of Larry's racing to himself, and he'll work the magic to post to the web. I'm not too savvy with that stuff. Trying to "film" a race car heading at you, going by you, and circling around with out a tripod is VERY difficult. I'll post a few photo's later today. Sorry, but I really screwed up by not photographing a few of the old Indy cars. They were incredible.

Also, in car video always seems be a let down. There is NO WAY it provides the true feeling or excitement a driver encounters. I'm hitting 135-140 mph at the end of the front straight and diving into a sweeping left hander (REAL pucker factor), and the video shows it like a Sunday drive in the park. I can just imagine what those NASCAR guys are subjected to, while I'm sitting on the couch with my popcorn and beer.

And the next guy who tells me about his track racing experience on his PS3 gets a boot up his ars! God am I ever tired of that. It happened again this weekend while shopping at a Walmart in College Station.

As for myself, I have to realize, as with everything else in life, if you don't practice, you don't improve very fast. Even though I did post a personal best, I'm still not catching and passing the ones I have my sights on. All the while, a race mate who started when I did has put a LOT of time, study, practice and money into his effort. He now runs with the front pack. Me, smack dab in the middle.

BUT....... it sure beat going to work last Thursday and Friday.

Oh yeah, I did win second place in B-Production for this past years effort. And best of all..... I haven't broken down in 4 races. Yahoo!

But now it's time for winter projects. Pull the engine this weekend. Engine goes north, body heads south, both for "freshening". Possibly a little suspension work (if I can afford it) and be ready for the February races.

120 mph??????
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...d_Atlantic.jpg
Well.... maybe not THAT fast. This yellow Atlantic past the #64 car like it was standing still. PEDAL FASTER LARRY!!!!!!!!

LREYBURN 11-16-2009 06:52 PM

Pedal Car Reply

2:03 Flat vs. ??? Steve? I've got 105 HP...with 1135 lbs. weight = 10.8 pounds per horse.
That yellow job is an Atlantic with almost twice the power to weight ratio. BTW what's your PWR Mr. luvdablues?

I got to tell you, road racing is absolutely 150% more thrilling than "tracking"; passing in corners, open wheel to wheel racing, the ultimate in concentration and focus, and the adrenalin rush at 135mph with one's a$$ sitting 2.75 inches off the pavement is hard to beat.

Pic.s and video to follow.
