top end problem and lift question
 
have found ( after trying to chase down JShel1 on a recent cruise ) that i have a problem getting up to top end...at about 110mph @ approx ( since my tach doesnt work now ) 3200 RPM it spits and sputters and doesnt want any more....and i know it has more..... i am NOT a mechanic but talked to a couple yesterday at a small car show....they thought it might be my ( basic ) electronic fuel pump working too hard, getting hot and crapping out at that speed or rpm, and that it is mounted above the fuel tank....
or could it be something else causing it...
..am considering upgrading to better one or going to stock mechanical....
i am running a 460 in her and just wanted some advice from you guys who have seen it and done it all ( or most of it ) thanks very much.
also considering buying a lift for my garage....anyone use one thats better than another ?

Throw the electronic away & get a mechanical pump.

I have a "low ceiling" lift made by Dannmar called the MaxJax & love it. email me for photo's, information and price.

What ignition do you have? The Ford Duraspark has been known for crapping out at high RPM's. You won't have that problen with a MSD. If you do have a MSD, there will be a logical reason for the problem and can be traced down.

Get n ao dyno and see what you get. You're not really interested in HP/TQ readings. What you want to know is what's happeing at 5,000 rpm's.

Otherwise, you're just guessing and repalcing parts almost at random.

Direct-Lift
 
Local dealer for Direct-Lift is Derek Weaver in FW:

A number of us in DFW have their economical 4 post lift. It was around $2K, including $400 for delivery and set up. Do pay the $400, these things are heavy and difficult to assemble. You don't have to bolt it down, but it will need to be repositioned with the casters every few months. They tend to scoot a little as you drive on and off.

About 10' 3". I had to have the garage door replaced with one that was about 9' tall so the tracks run closer to the ceiling. As it is, I have to position the Cobra correctly so that the w/s will be between the garage door opener drive motor and the shoe that travels down the track with the door.

I do that so it will go up another 6" and I can park the Z4 with the top up.
