FFR Coupe 285 Licensed
Yesterday I made it thru the inspection at the TXDOT station in Plano and eventually got the car licensed.
A bit stressful as there were so many mistakes at the inspection station. But, all in all, it was a successful day. Forgot to mention the waver!!! Wahoo My thanks to all those who contributed the info for the process. Now, if that money tree would start to bloom again! Jeff  |
Sounds good, I am interested in hearing how the coupe performs with a 347. Ive been planning the drivetrain for my future coupe for a few years and finally accepted that a 351W isnt required in a small car like this.
Other than that its good to see another coupe in Texas though. Not many are here from what I seen. |
Congrats!
Way cool, Jeff! I'm looking forward to seeing you and your car at some gatherings. Big Texas Cobra Meet coming up if you can get 'er down to San Marcos. Many from the DFW area are going.

I guess I need to say the 347 is, pretty stout. Originally I was intended for a 67 or 68 coupe @2800#s or so. Haven't had it on a dyno yet.
I'm using a Quarter Master 5.5' tripple disk setup an its not street friendly. I'll need to change that in the near future if its going to seem much street time. The next challange is paint. 10-4 on meeting some of the cobra guys, can't wait. Not going to make it to San Marcos this time. I've been pushing to get this thing legal and my "to do" list has turned into the "must do" list. I'm anxious to get it out on the street and see how it feels at speed. I've been checking nuts and bolts, much to my supprise I've found way too many loose? Jeff |
Jeff,
Sorry you can't make this year. We need more Coupes. last weekend in March every year. Hope to see you next year. |

Yea, San Marcos just won't happen. I hope everyone has a great time. Wish I could make it but not this year. Will shoot for next year. Thanks.
Rusty S85, I had no intentions to make this on street legal but as usual things change. I don't exactly know the hp & tq but they must be substantial. I opted for the FMS Sportsman heads and 590/598 solid cam. Its got a lot of torque. And w/no flywheel, it gives new meaning to zoom, very easy to keep the rear tires clean. As always HP and TQ are easy to make, controlling them is a different story = patience. When I was researching the engine combo, some pavement oval guys gave me some pointers. They build a lot of Fords and said my only problem would be traction. Boy were they right. Jeff |

Only problem is that I would much rather go with the 15" rims over the 17`s since I like 15`s and like the ride and honestly on the street 15`s dont make the handling worse than low profile tires. I know that first hand, downside is the tires. I looked at Coker but they dont carry vintage "muscle car" style tires in both sides. I can get them in one size for the 15" rims but not for the rear set in the alternative size. |
To Rusty S85 and Jeff
get in touch with Eric at Performance Engineering (Ross, Ohio) 513-738-5001
. Not long ago, he quoted me a 302/331 fully dressed (AC/PS, pulleys, EFI, etc.) for about $9K. the engine would have produced about 375-390HP. My Coupe project is on-hold indefinitely. Jeff - you have to bring your 65 Coupe to our Monthly meeting on April 2nd. Francis |
Francis, I'd love to. That will be the longest drive yet. Where and what time?
I"ve only put a half dozen miles on it since it was licensed. I made a couple of laps around the neighborhood last Sunday. Probably should have waited for Monday when everyone was at work. I kept the speed down to the limit but I did get on it out on the highway. Man, what a ride. I was happy to not feel the secondaries boog or dump in. Very smoothe entry. I really couldn't tell exactly what rpm they come in w/progressive linkage, but I'm sure they were in after passing 6k. Jeff |
Another One! Yeah!
Jeff:
Watch the site for location and time of the monthly meet. There seems to be a normative social process with this Club that no one posts a meeting sight until the Wednesday before the first Saturday on the month. It's a spontaneous thing. Can't wait to see your creation. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...mbs/Q-_092.jpg |
Congrats! I loved my FFR coupe. I had a 392 (351w rated at 430 hp) w/efi stacks, tko 600, 3.73 rear). Eventually, I used every bit of that engine with the only problem being traction. Good luck with it!

If you need an escort from Prosper, I can meet you there, cruise down to our monthly meeting. weather looks good - high 70s, low 80's for Apr 2nd I knew larry would be excited to have another coupe in the club. Now he wont be the only one. Moreso, I'd like to see the differences/improvements FFR has done. Francis |

Sorry to jump the gun on "the not announce before Wednesday," but I would like to steer us back to Jakes Burgers in Addison to follow through with the Automotivation Charity Dining Rewards program that Jakes is setting up for the DFW group. I know it is a haul for the Westsiders, right after we all racked up the miles in the Texas Hill Country and at the track, but 38 is cleaned up and ready go again. I will post up with specifics in another thread. |
Good Call! Put us down for two. J. Dean, how much are the "shipping and handling" charges for Jackie's jacket?
|
Thanks JSHEL1
I hope the weather changes soon, I need to get a few more miles on the car to look for gremlins. An escort sounds great. I'm up north in Prosper, pick a meeting place. Jeff |
