Emissions in Texas
 
If I am going to look at a car that is out of Texas and want to purchase it, what components would the car need to pass emissions here? O2 sensor, catalyst, closed air cleaner..... ? Does anyone have a list?

Not sure where "Here" is as no location in your profile but if you purchase a Texas Cobra and going to register it in Texas there is no emission requirements as it is registered as a replica of a 1965 or 1966 Cobra which didn't have emissions. You will need to have a safety inspection.

Ok, I am in Texas and finding Cobras that are titled as 92 and above... The cars are outside of Texas and I'm worried they wont pass emissions testing. I heard Michigan titles the cars as the build year. If I bring a titled 2007 to Texas, what do I need to look at for emissions?

Have the seller send a copy of the Car's registration. You need to look at how the car is titled. it may have been assembled (not Manufactured - big difference) in '92 or '07, but it has to show the model. Ask the seller what his states inspection criteria.

For example - 2007 shelby cobra 1965 replica... something like that.

Some states recognize replicas and exempt them from emmission, etc., others do not.

Texas doesn't do anything as far as emmisions. There is no emmision testing in Texas for Cobras.

Insure your Cobra as a 1965 Ford Cobra Roadster. Then you won't have to wory about emissions.

So after a bunch of phone calls to the Regional Office etc this is what I came up with. Currently the car is titled as a 2006 Assembled Roadster, no notes section on the title. The state the car was registered in does not have emissions therefore is not required like certain counties in Texas to be ODB2 compliant. There is a bunch of posts likes this same one that I have looking at and I think this is the correct course: Get safety inspection, get new TX title indicating 1965 Shelby Cobra Replica, no emissions testing..... The one thing I am not sure of is having this looked at by DPS or someone to inspect it. If it must be inspected by them, what paperword do I bring? Any help is appreciated!

when I got insurance on my Cobra, it was done over the phone with my insurance company. They never asked me for a copy of the title nor have they ever ask me for a copy of the title for any car or truck I have. I just told them what it was and it was done. All I had to do is show my insurance card, not the title, to the state inspector and the only thing that was done is a safety inspection. Done.

You do not have to have your car inspected by the DPS. They have nothing to do with emission control ins Texas anyway. This whole emissions BS is easily avoided if you will take the advice of the others who have gone before you. If you buy a car titled as a later year assembled vehicle, then get your insurance done first as a 1965 and go have it safety inspected at a local Kwik-Lube or Jiffy Lube. You DO NOT have to go have the car inspected by DPS. This is only if you build one from scratch and have to have a VIN issued. The process of the TX safety inspection (checking your lights, brakes, horn etc) will immediately disqualify the car from needing emissions inspection by virtue of how they register it in the safety computer with TXDOT. Then take your 1965 insurance, your 1965 inspection receipt and your 2005 title to the tag/tax office and tell them you want to get a Texas title for your ASSEMBLED VEHICLE. The people sitting behind the glass care nothing about emissions inspection, they are just required to confirm that you have had it inspected before your title. They assume that the Jiffy-Lube or whoever inspected it addressed whether or not it needed to be safety or safety+emissions. They will issue you a title for a 2005 WHATEVER and send you on your way.
