Trip to Hot Springs via Talimena Scenic Drive / Queen Wilimena State Park
As mentioned in a previous thread, I'm leading a group of FFR's to Wareham, MA. starting on June 7th, 2011.
I thought I would see if any of you local guys are interested in the first leg of the trip. You could participate in the first leg and then turn around and come back home on the second day if you wanted. On the first day we'll be leaving from Burleson, TX. and driving to Hot Springs, AR. We will be getting to Hot Springs via the Talimena Scenic Drive / Queen Wilimena State Park. If you haven't been on the Talimena Scenic Drive, I'm certain you will enjoy it. Red Roof Inn - Hot Springs 1125 East Grand Avenue Hot Springs, AR 71901 501-624-3321 Tell them you're with the "Cobra Car Club." They will "try" to put us together in down stairs, King, non-smoking rooms, $59.99. Trip Advisor gives it decent reviews. Recent Remodel. Red Roof Inn Hot Springs is newly renovated in 2010 and offers an upscale room at a great price. It is located at the foot of the Hot Springs National Park & Mountain Tower Hiking Trails. This hotel is conveniently located ½ mile from the Hot Springs Convention Center and only 1 mile from Magic Springs and Crystal Falls. May be able to park directly in front of room if you book soon. I did this same drive in a Porsche Turbo and Enya music was NOT playing. In fact I think it was Boston. Nothing better than resolving yourself to the fact that you are likely going to get a serious speeding ticket (and jail time), only to run the whole day in top gear with narry a cop to be found. It would be a blast in el Cobra.

My nephew lives in Hot Springs and he works at a Hotel down town. PM me if you want infor about the hotel.

Hey Joe,
Any takers on the first leg to Hot Springs yet? I may try to hook up with y'all somewhere in Oklahoma and run to Hot Springs. Sounds like fun. -Greg |
Hello again Greg!
Yes, I think there are a total of four of us so far on the first leg. They are all off of the ffcars forum. I believe Wayne65, Ajurgen, Mike Covey and myself are pretty certain to be doing the first leg. I'd be glad to have you meet up with us. In Oklahoma the plan is to go into Durant, East on Hwy 70, North on 271 into Talihina, East on Hwy. 1, East US 59/Us 270. etc.. Joe - - |

Met up with Greg just outside of Talihina, OK. and had a blast running down Talimena Scenic Drive. It was a bit hazy, but there no nobody on the road which really increased the driving fun! :).
Made it to Hot Springs, AR. safe and sound. The last half of the day was REAL hot. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little cooler! Just met Wayne65 and his wife, very nice people. Looking forward to tomorrow! Shower - CHECK Dinner - CHECK Car Cleaned and covered - CHECK Now, time to watch some Mavericks kick some Heat butt! Go Mavs! |
Thanks are in order for the Kentucky Cobra Club. They showed us a great time this evening. Great burger place and then Happy Hour in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn. Good Times for sure!

Arrived safe and sound at Raynham, MA. today. We got all the way up here and didn't get rained on. Don't ask me how because I don't know. The clouds parted at the just the right time and let us through. The car ran perfectly.
